Cowles Mountain Coffee

At the corner of Navajo Road and Golfcrest is this building...

which is right at the base and main trailhead of Cowles Mountain...

Here's how it looks from above in the early morning light which we walked up Cowles Mountain the day before Christmas...

The coffee place is a little stand here with a few tables to sit either under shade or in the sun.

I tried the iced blueberry mocha while Bert had the  Butterscotch Latte (he forgot to ask for soy and uh, "paid for it" later) while TC got her latest obsession, an acai bowl.

They also had "fall" flavored drinks with pumpkin, spices, egg nog or peppermint, none of which interested me. The blueberry mocha was a little different and probably not something I would get again. The blueberry syrup was a bit too artificial  tasting.  I'm not too crazy about the acai bowl. It tastes like a berry sorbet but with crunchy stuff on top. I don't like the acai blend myself but prefer the crunchy granola, coconut and chocolate chip bits (everything but the fruit). I think the non-fruit topping makes it less healthy.

Looks like a dark berry mix sorbet. It seems like more of a "dessert" than a breakfast thing to me.

They don't have any savory items at the coffee stand. Rather they have a lot of granola and fruit bars. Since I didn't really "eat" anything here and  was still hungry, I thought we would try another place down the road...

Our car was along the main road which was now crowded with other hikers' who came after us.

I've never had an acai bowl but I agree - it looks like dessert! A blueberry mocha sounds interesting but it also sounds pretty sweet.

I don't see the appeal of these acai bowls. Ugh.
