La Ley and I were here recently; it was her second time and my umpteenth...
Her favorite pho place is Dragon Express on the west side of Chula Vista. She wanted to give Pho Convoy a try. I recommended the pho with briskey and flank for her. She normally gets tai, which to me, can get kind of touch. She really like these cuts of meat...

As for me, I got the egg noodle soupo with mixed seafood, heavy on the squid rings and fish balls.

Both soups hit the spot for us that day.
Last week was the annual PASACAT Christmas party. One of the dancer's Lola made her Arroz Caldo (a Philippine version of congee). You can see the threads of saffron floating on top as well as the accompaniments in a separate tray (caamansi, sliced eggs, fried garlic, choppped green onions, peper and a really cute mini bottle of patis (my favorite brand too Rufina).

The meat in the arroz caldo was chicken (I was happy that she included wing pieces). If you want to be old school, you would add beef tripe, in which the dish would be called "goto" instead.
And earlier today, TC and I went to Kanpai (which shares space with Gunco Ramen); this time we sat on the Kanpai side, which is usually busier. I was enamored of the Christmas themes plastic food display with the lucky cats. TC had a beef teriyaki/Cali roll bento while I had the shoy ramen with pork. I couldnt' believe how soft and melt in your mouth tender that pork was. My mouth is watering just thinking about it...

This was a nice start of our three week break (for TC and I at least)...

This winter break, she and I will explore a few more hole in the walls down here, places that hardly anyone ever yelps about or blogs about.

Haha, I also love those plastic food displays for some reason! I have no idea why, but I do. That Convoy Noodle House was the first place I ever took Jake to try Pho because Mandarin was crazy busy. It's just okay to me, I like other Pho places better. My mom usually makes arroz caldo when someone isn't feeling well (herself or me). I love that stuff. Mmm, your ramen looks so goooood!
Those fake plastic foods look so real, it's fascinating! Pho Convoy isn't that great but it's the closest to our house by default.
I will be making arroz caldo for New Year's Eve...tradition, eh.
