Red wax covered imported Edam cheese. Yes, Just like the "bola bola" cheese heralds the Christmas season, so begins the Christmas traditions in our household...
which includes watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music (non-traditional in my case which include new wave, punk rock, hard rock, and heavy metal versions).
We have a basket that we set by the fireplace filled with Christmas books. We bought many of them when TC was still an infant, knowing that we would be reading these to her as she got older. Now that she's 14, she still likes leafing through some of the books. These are on the "newer" side, but I remember buying "The Joy of a Peanuts Christmas" book at a grocery store during our Chicago trip in 2009. It was only $1!!!!

In college, N and I would make our infamous mixed tapes. We spliced snippets of dialogue from the Charlie Brown Christmas Special record and added New Wave version of Christmas songs in between.
I'm always reminded of how special it used to be watching what are now "classic" Christmas specials. Nowadays kids can watch whatever they want at any time of the year. Not so when I was a kid. The Peanuts special (or Rudolph or whatever) was only one ONCE A YEAR. If you missed it, tough shit. There was no DVR back then. Heck, we didn't even have VHS until the 80's. I think my generation look upon these specials with more fondness than the younger and more seemingly jaded generation.
It's hard to believe that the Peanuts Christmas special is over 50 years old now.
As young kids, we begged our parents to buy this album for us, only to be disappointed that it was the instrumental jazz music.

My brother, sister and I didn't appreciate it back then, but now as an adult, I love it, especially songs like "Skating" and "Christmas is Coming". In fact, here is the link for the album, which you can listen to below:
We will be watching the Peanuts Christmas special on our antiquated VHS player when it gets closer to Christmas time...

Charlie Brown Christmas and the Rudolph ones were my favorite. I never liked Frosty. I hope that's not a crime. I missed CB Christmas this year and I didn't want to rent it. I used to have it on VHS somewhere... Usually for Christmas we watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - that's Jake and I's favorite!
Thanka Mary! Charlie Brown and Rudolph were among my faves as well.
Frosty sucked! i hated Frosty too. I was always glad when he melted.
The Grinch ranks up there as a fave as well. Heh heh, The Griswolds!
