we went out for breakfast like we used to before she could drive...
I had missed my time going out with her for breakfast and lunch. Bert was out playing volleyball with some friends that morning so we kept it local and also made use of a coupon I had (buy one get one entree up to $11 off). I hadn't been here before but TC had been several times already (two of those posts linked at the end).

This space used to be House of Nine Dragons, then became a short lived sports bar before turning into Franco's Flap Jack. The folks who used to own the Chinese place now run the coffee kiosk at the new San Diego Library downtown. There is another Franco's Flap Jack location in Alpine which Cathy of mmm-yoso has been to. We didn't have to wait long considering it was a Sunday morning. It wasn't quite 9 am yet. By the time we left, the line was out the door!

Our breakfast - TC ordered something from the lunch menu, a tuna sandwich with her choice of potato salad. I wavered between the chicken fried steak and the standard meat/eggs/potatoes. In this case, I took our waiter's recommendation and got the Italian sausage (over the sausage link and patty). My scrambled eggs was a huge portion (three eggs is a lot for me).

TC has enjoyed this before The potato salad was pretty good. Very chunky with a bit of dill thrown in.

I was wishing I had stuck with my original sausage link choice. The Italian sausages were on the dense side. It was very heavy and I couldn't even finish one. Bert ended up eating the leftovers when he got home from his game. The portion of the Italian ausages was generous, but I didn't really like the flavor and the texture. My hash browns were all right but not as crisp as the kind TC had the other day at Sunshine Pancake House.
As I was paying at the front counter, I saw this figurine of San Martin de Caballero (also known as St. Martin of Tours). This is the third Mexican owned business I've seen with this statue. He is the patron saint of good luck, work, and money.

The story is that Martin saw a naked beggar on the side of the road. He did the noble thing and gave the beggar his cloak. Later, in a dream, the beggar turned out to be Jesus and it was then that Martin quit the army to become a monk. In Mexico, San Martin is popular for shopkeeper because like the beggar, shopkeepers "depend on the kindness of strangers to make ends meet".
Cathy of mmm-yoso has been to the Poway location
