The new City Heights Coffee House

I thought it would nice to spend some time with TC today.

She is on vacation as well and since she didn't have any morning plans...

We headed out to City Heights to the new brick and mortar shop of City Heights Coffee House; a place we visited back in November 2016 when they were located in the back of a thrift store in an alley a few blocks down.

They recently soft opened and are still in the process of raising funds for their new shop.  There is a bright yellow wall which reads, "You already belong". We loved that sentiment, especially in this day and age where overt racism and hatred towards others is now the norm in the country due to the so-called "president".  Today was also World Refugee Day, which the coffee shop emphasized on their social media.  The shop is known for supporting by providing jobs and fostering relationships with the local residents, many of whom are refugees themselves.

It's bright and airy in here. They are still in the process of buying more furniture and seating.

Their menu:

This is the same banner from their former site:

My cortado...served in a ceramic cup by request. Paper for other drinks and mugs up to 12 oz if you want a latte.

This was a well made drink - very smooth and the perfect ratio of milk to espresso.

TC's ca phe sua da (VN iced coffee) took a bit since it had to filter first. I noticed they used Trung Nguyen brand ground espresso, which Bert and I really like for our VN iced coffees.  I was surprised TC wanted this. She keeps mixing up Thai iced coffee with VN and forgets how strong VN coffee can be. She only managed a few sips before calling it quits. She said the caffeine was just too much. We needed to have some food soon, heh heh.

As we left, the sun was already out in full force. You can also see the San Diego Fair billboard back there.  The new theme is "How Sweet It Is"...We can't wait to go to the fair ourselves in a few weeks!

Great drinks here. We will definitely return.

The gal working here was really nice (I believe she was one of the co-owners; there are five I believe.  I like their philosphy in helping raise up the community by hiring local folks (at risk youth, refugees, those who are trying to get back on their feet again, etc). and being community oriented. Their menu is also reflective of the cultures they serve.  It's great to see that they now have a brick and mortar. May their success continue to grow and be nurtured by the community.
