(view of the pier from afar, while on Ocean Ave)
TC was happy to see "action" because for our last visit, it was waaaay early in the morning, however...
Here was our view earlier after parking at Parking Structure 6...

And again near Ocean Ave. That parking lot was pretty full but still had some spots. There were tons of people walking on the pier, unlike our last experience. I liked it with no people. It was hard to walk at times. We also saw vendors selling churros (not sure how fresh they were) and also Mexican fruit salad (watermelon and pineapple spears with tajin and chamoy).

We took a look at the amusement park and blanched at the prices of the rides. A ticket for the ferris wheel was $10!

There were some unusual performers on the pier as well, none of which are pictured. You had your standard one man bands, plus folks who played popular versions of songs but with the pan flute (Zamfir, who by the way, is STILL ALIVE, can run circles around these people, ha ha). One song that we kept hearing these performers play was Ed Sheeran's annoying "Shape of You". The only reason I know that song is because of TC, otherwise, not by choice would I listen to this. Not a fan. Sorry, but not really. There were also musicians playing jazz along with dancers of dubious talent on that pier.
But wait, the best performer we saw out there was a dude in a Trump mask playing the saxophone. He was pretty good but his talent was negated by his choice of mask, ha ha.
We also saw Trump and King Jong Un lookalikes near the foot of the pier but they were accompanied by a rather aggressive man (maybe their manager?) who was trying to hustle folks to pay money to have their photos taken with them. He shook his head disapprovingly at TC who was trying to snap a shot from afar. The guy was so mean! But those dudes really did look like the two dictators in questions.
Overpriced rides.

And in the arcade...

I wanted dinner but didn't have any plans. The problem with this high tourist area is that every place to eat nearby was totally crowded and I knew I didn't want to eat on the pier or even a block's distance from it.
Skipped were photos from dinner. We originally wanted to try Seasons 52 at the nearby mall (ugh, yes) but the lines were too long. We ended up having dinner at a small Italian cafe in the middle of the Third Street Promenade. The food photos were pretty unremarkable - Caesar salad and a flat bread with side salad (piadini, I believe it was called; sadly it was dry and the prosciutto and cheese were sparse).
Previous visit to Santa Monica:

We had planned to do the beach the next day but resorted to Plan B instead...
