Return to Cafe Stems

Last weekend we headed over to the Convoy area...

We were just at The Forum not too far away in Clairemont...

and wanted to make sure to use this new coupon right when Cafe Stems opened (10:30 on Sundays).

It was raining that weekend, hence the drops on the window...

I like going to places early...no lines and crowds and also, unencumbered photos, heh heh.  I saw they now had wraps on the menu. I didn't see onigiri like the first time I went with Kirbie (post linked at the end).

The mural above is new.

Meanwhile, as we waited for our salads, it was still wet outside.

Can you guess whose food this was?

The acai bowl is the giveaway...

If you guessed TC, then you are correct.  She got a combination acai bowl with a side salad; in this case, the "Fig it Up" (kale, figs, carrots, sliced almonds, lemon poppy seed dressing and feta).

Bert had the "Apples, Pom, and Pears! (Oh My) salad which was arugula with the aforementioned fruit along with candied walnuts, balsamic vinaigrette and blue cheese.  When I was here with Kirbie, we had the same salads but without the offending cheeses because feta and bleu = barf.

As for my order, the "Suit and Thai" wrap which had kale, tofu, pickled carrots, cilantro, spicy candied walnuts and Thai peanut dressing. This was pretty damn good!  No gross cheese but most importantly, easy to eat since it was self-contained. This would probably taste good with actual meat (chicken or even shrimp) but to keep it healthy, tofu is the only choice here.

Bert's salad was pretty assertive, with all of that arugula. The chopped fruit in his salad was a nice counterpoint, although the pomegranate seeds themselves were sparse.  TC enjoyed her acai bowl. I just can't get into those. It feels like I am eating a dessert.  The other half of  my wrap was saved for later that afternoon.  It didn't last long!

Previous visit to Cafe Stems:
"Cafe Stems with Kirbie + Cake de Partie revisit" January 2017 (where we also had onigiri!)

I still have the "online" version of the coupon to use for a future visit.  That Entertainment Value book really does pay for itself.  Both Bert and TC liked Cafe Stems and their healthy options.

It looks so good here; so many times I crave an interesting salad. When we get to that parking lot early, The Mister wants to jump into Kula for a quick meal...

I know that you and the Mister would like this place. Healthy choices here for sure. Going early helps out too since that parking lot (like most on Convoy) sucks.
