Seed Bakery

Not too far away was another bakery I looked up on google maps...

(my great "drive by" photo)

They are known for using ancient grains in their bread and milling their own flour...

Seed Bakery  has its own parking lot in the back, which, like many of the streets in Pasadena this cold and crisp morning, was strewn with tree debris.

We opted for a pastry each. In retrospect, we should have gotten a baguette or some sort of bread item from here but coming fresh from breakfast at that other place, didn't have too much room.  I have to say that it smelled so good in here and their breads looked very tempting.

We saw that they also had savory items, making me regret my choice to go to a hipster spot for breakfast instead of a neighborhood bakery. My eyes wanted that blueberry tart as well, but I chose a plain croissant while Bert selected the peanut butter trail mix muffin.

And here they were...these baked goods put the ones we had at Lincoln to shame. To be honest, we did save those things but ended up tossing the kouign amann the next day (Bert actually ate the rest of his almond croissant).

I liked the yellow rimmed plate the muffin rested on.  It had a delightful nutty and oaty crust. There were loads of peanuts and chocolate chips within as well. Bert really enjoyed it as did I. My croissant was flaky on the outside; the inside not so much, but it was incredibly fluffly and light.

The vibe was pretty quiet here. Lots of locals which we like. It's off the main drags and not anywhere near Old Town Pasadena which is filled with lots of chains.

If you park in the lot, you can also enter through the backdoor, which we didn't realize until we saw someone walk through there while ordering our pastries.

Next time we are here, we will definitely buy a loaf or two!

We wanted to walk off breakfast and Bert suggested a local park we'd been to before, so off we went.
