NADI Myanmar Cafe

The day's sunny skies were a far cry from the previous night...

where it rained nonstop and then some! En route to Alhambra...

where we passed underneath a pedestrian bridge near Alhambra High School.

As we drove past our "snack" destination, something seemed familiar about the place.

Although the restaurant was now Nadi Myanmar Cafe, a new Burmese eatery, we realized that this used to be Indo Kitchen. In fact, you can still make out the faint letters on the awning.

Check out this older post from Wandering Chopsticks when it was Indo Kitchen (my post is linked at the end).

We definitely knew it was the same place when we saw the "B" rating on their window. Yes, a "B".  It's very red inside with a photographic mural of Myanmar covering one wall.

We only ordered two items because we wanted to save some room for dinner later that evening. We chose the samusas (fried triangles filled with curried mashed potatoes) and the tea leaf salad.

They are also known for a soup (under the NADI specials), #1, Kyay-Oh, which has pork offal (intestines) but we passed on that. Offal is not one of my favorite things to eat.

Our server was very nice and friendly. It wasn't too crowded during our visit with only a few tables occupied by either one or two people.

Our shared drink was passionfruit iced tea which was way too sweet.  We were glad to see that the samusas were plural because the menu wording was 'samusa' so we weren't sure if we were going to get one big one. The accompany sauce for the samusas was pretty spicy. I thought it was a lot of sauce for the portion that we had.

These were delicious and just enough to tide us over.

The fermented tea leaf salad. Now THIS was pretty strong.  We could really taste the sourness in the tea leaves but it was tempered by the addition slivered crunchy cabbage, crunchy peanuts and lentils and beans. Lots of texture and assertive flavors.

Yes, the letter on the sign.

I don't even know why they got a 'B' but we didn't keel over or have any, uh, issues later on.

This is the second time we've eaten at a restaurant with a "B" rating, or maybe this should count as one since this is the same location, just a different name. We're still standing a few days later so we can cross off food poisoning.  Too bad Burmese food hasn't made its way down to San Diego yet, not counting the healthier and lighter rendition of Burmese tea leaf salad at Cafe Stems on Convoy.  There are so many Burmese restaurants in the Bay Area and the SGV but not here...at least not yet.
