Third time's a charm @ Chi for MFH's birthday lunch + street art near Art Produce

My good friend MFH (Mi Firme Heina) just celebrated her (real) birthday a couple of days ago....

Earlier today, I met her for a belated birthday lunch at Chi...

where we enjoyed the mango and coconut iced teas (hers and mine respectively). MFH did her research ahead of time and knew that she already wanted the Miang Kham. She doesn't read blogs (even mine) and didn't know that I'd had it twice already but not to worry since I do like this.  She really enjoyed the different flavors and textures along with the sweet tamarind sauce in this particular appetizer.

After mulling our choices, we decided to go with one of their specials, the Grilled Seafood with papaya salad and sticky rice (our spice level was a '2'). We were told that the seafood choices would be salmon, shrimp and scallops. The papaya salad was pretty mild while the accompanying chili sauce packed quit the kick.

The salmon portion was substantial (we couldn't finish it between us) while the shrimp and scallops were not. C'mon, only TWO shrimp? And ONE scallop? Damn.

Not shown was the side of wide rice noodles that MFH ordered. She also asked for an extra side of the same sauce used for the miang kham to eat with the noodles.

Service, like the first two times I've been here was excellent and attentive.  This time they kept the doors closed and there were no pesky flies bothering us.

After our delicious lunch, we went over to nearby North Park for dessert. While on the way to the dessert destination, we saw these spray painted stencils on Herman St. (near University Ave), behind the dessert place...The stencils continued on to the sidewalk next to a garden which is part of Art Produce, a gallery. From what I've read, the garden is set to be part of the new Chuckaleck Brewers Biergarten Project" (a Ramona based brewery, founded two years ago). That will be nice when it's finished. Customers can enjoy their food and drinks in the beautiful garden which has a multitude of healthy vegetables, fruits, and herbs growing in abundance.

It was quite nice seeing these cheerful stenciles

Those stencils add a little pop of color on the streets. Very nice to see!
