Bert's belated birthday brunch @ Center Cut Steakhouse

Since Bert's birthday was on a weekday, we didn't go out for dinner. Instead, we waited until this weekend so I could treat him to breakfast brunch here...

Those that remember Coop's West Texas BBQ's 2nd (and now closed) Chula Vista location will find this building familiar...

Sadly, Coop's in CV is gone but Center Cut Steakhouse, which never really left, seems to have risen from the ashes and now offers a full menu along with a weekend breakfast brunch and even all you can eat pasta on Wednesdays.

The colors are black and red (classic steakhouse) with black upholstered booths. They have the decorative fake boxwood walls seen in many a restaurant nowadays.

The view from our corner booth. I didn't take photos of the actual buffet (you may see Lora's post linked at the end; she took photos of all the chafing dishes) but for my first plate, I got a tiny bit of everything.

The buffet itself is $9.99 and drinks like sangria (mine), mimosas (Bert's) and TC's pink lemonade cost $3 (the lemonade was the only drink to get a free refill).

The offerings were a mix of Mexican and American foods. Spanish rice, beans, penne pasta with vodka cream sauce, fettucine alfredo, spicy corn, macademia nut crusted fish (this was so good!), steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, eggs (kind of too runny), bacon, thick pork sausages, potatoes, and even paella (which wasn't that great to be honest).

We were asked if we wanted menudo (which is included in the buffet price) as well as either corn or flour tortillas (we asked for both). The menudo bowl was on the small side. I didn't realize 'til later that they didn't give us chopped onions, cilantro and whatever else goes into the soup. Bummer.

Bert's 2nd plate - a crepe, pancake, sausages, bacon and chicharrones in red ssauce.

My 2nd plate - a piece of that macademia cruster fish, another slice of bacon, one more sausage (hangs head in shame), two thin cucumber slices (I think I wanted to fool myself into thinking I would at least one healthy thing; I failed) and more of that spicy corn, which wasn't really spicy but I like corn, so there.

We skipped out on the dessert which were puddings in  plastic cup and jello. Not my favorite. I also skipped on the cut up fruit and their salad.  I usually do when we go to buffets.

Here's more details on their Pasta Bar, which comes with entertainment...a quartet playing romantic songs in Spanish.

And this is what we did today. Worth it. The food is better than average and the servers are super nice and attentive.

Who else went to Center Cut Steakhouse for the breakfast buffet?
LoraSaysSo! did an extensive post on July 2015; her post really made me want to go here and Bert is glad we did.

The day wasn't over yet for me. I had some errands to do later that morning involving ethnic markets...

Yay CC! I really liked it there too! I need to go back and feed the fam bam. For that price, AYCE and the selections, it's totally worth it! Thanks for the mention!

Happy belated birthday to Bert! Hmm, a decent buffet, you say? I'm sure Jake would be up for trying that out. The price is right, too. I've always thought jell-o at a buffet was a cop out haha. Jell-o is very very low on my list of "things I'm willing to eat".

Thank you Mary! Yeah the buffet was pretty good for the price. It wasn't all fancy fancy but it wasn't crappy either like those Chinese buffets (ugh). Jello sucks. It's hospital food.
