Juice Adventure

Last week, our lunch trio of me, Mr. TJ and La Ley went here...

Juice Adventure has been in this strip mall across from Southwestern College for at least 17 years and is located between Los Panchos taco shop and Otay books (catering to the college kids across the street)....

Juice Adventure certainly has staying power. It survived the recession in the late 90's and late 00's and seems to be going quite strong after all these years. I miss the days when Henry's Market used to be next door. It briefly changed hands as Otay Market, then went out of business until the Dollar Store took over. I still miss Henry's though because driving out to Eastlake is much farther...

This is a modest juice bar and eaterie, serving a very wide selection of relatively healthy juice drinks and smoothies along with a limited selection of sandwiches. Their lunch special is $7.95 for a sandwich and any smoothie on their menu.

Although it's not listed on the board, the chicken salad sandwich is listed on their paper menu. Mr. TJ tried it the day after we went here and said the chicken tasted canned. He didn't like it, but I probably would!

They both got the tuna salad sandwich with everything on it (lettuce, red onion, shredded carrots and cheese, mayo,  olives, pepperoncinni) along with the same shakes, the Protein Pump (which to me, sounds vaguely, uh nasty)...

I got the lunch special as well, opting for the Turkey sandwich with everything on it. My choice of smoothie was the Blueberry Blast which had blueberry, pineapple and coconut. It was like a blueberry pina colada in fact.  I don't recall being asked the type of bread I wanted, but the young guy making it obviously chose wheat for all of us. The bread was pretty thick and sturdy. Of course, I ended up deconstructing mine and used a fork because of the shredded stuff within.  I really enjoyed my sandwich but would have liked it more if the cheese wasn't shredded. In addition, the shredded carrots, while adding a healthy dose of Vitamin A, made this quite messy to eat. Everything kept falling out, so I picked at mine and ate it piece meal.

Their menu which can also be viewed online here:

I don't care what Mr. TJ says, I still want to try their chicken salad sandwich (insert evil laughter here)...

For the record, I really enjoyed my smoothie and plan to try a different kind next time we three stop in...
