Return to Le Parfait Paris

TC had dress rehearsal downtown for the big show.

Being downtown meant another opportunity for me to kill time, and visit Le Parfait once more...

This post is a combination of two separate visits.  For the second one, I went solo (Bert would join me for the next visit which was the next evening!)...

Walking east on 5th...

As I was snapping this shot, I noticed a man with a tripod taking his own photos. It turned out he was the owner, Guillaume. I believe I saw him before at the Mission Valley location, except this time, he was not in a suit, but dressed more casually. We chatted a bit before I entered to get my almond chocolate croissant fix. He seemed quite excited about being downtown where there is more nightlife...

Their menu (I noticed that choquettes went down in price from .65 to .20. I wonder if that was a typo):

Cute stuff on their shelves:

Once again, the almond chocolate croissant. I was originally just going to eat half then save the rest for Bert. Well...that didn't happen so I bought an extra one for him on my way out.

Perfection.

In the box were three of their desserts for us to try during the next few days: Le Trilogie (the rectangular one), Le Bavarois (the pink one) and their namesake, Le Parfait Paris. I plated them later at home, and unfortunately, a few got jostled in transit. The white mousse dessert also softened and started to lean and melt.

Le Trilogie - so named because it is a three layer chocolate mouse (white, milk and dark), covered with macaron halves. So cute!

Le Bavarois - "I'm melting....."  This was a vanilla bean mousse with raspberries and macaron halves as decor as well. TC liked this the best...

Le Parfait Paris - this was highly recommended by the young man at the counter. The crust was crisp

The next evening, I came back with Bert. The owner was there again and he recognized me. The worker from last night was also there. This time Bert got our favorite combo croissant while I got the plain almond (seen below). For his coffee, he got a Cafe au Lait with soy milk. Before we left, I picked up a couple of more pastries for breakfast the next day, a raspberry danish (which was one of the best we've ever had) and the Chausson aux Pomme (an puff pastry turnover filled with apple puree which I had the first time in Mission Valley).

You can see which pastries were popular that day...

I also picked up one brioche since it was $1...

This looked good, but I refrained. I remember having something similar at Blush and it was quite awkward to eat.

The brioche was a bit on the dry side. Maybe it was past it's prime.

Bert's coffee (pic is out of order since foam is almost gone, haha)...

Once again, we loved their coffee. Look at those layers...

My almond croissant seemed liked it was missing something....uh, chocolate perhaps?   Seriously, it was just okay but I am just obsessed with the almond chocolate combo.  As we were finishing our pastries, Guillaume came over to chat with us, then offered us another dessert...on the house. This was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. It turned out to be Le Cheesecake and although we thought we couldn't manage another bite of anything, this cheesecake was so light and fluffy and smooth. And yes, we finished every bit of it!

Sorry for the dark and crappy picture:

The next morning...

Nice and flaky...and the apple "concotion" as they so describe it on their menu, is a smooth apple puree. Loved this!

Bert really liked this buttery and fruity danish...

Next up are their breads and sandwiches to try for future visits...

Who else went to Le Parfait?

I'm already thinking of excuses to be downtown so that we can go here again. Maybe we will get lucky and Bert will get his Le Saint Barth dessert!

So many goodies! I've been wanting to go back but I'm hardly ever downtown and try to avoid going downtown.

So, it's 8 a.m. and I want to drive to Mission Valley for something...but will definitely go to the downtown location when we are there. Great photos. Sounds like a really nice owner.

I wish they delivered. I hate going Downtown.

Yeah, that would be nice, haha. I hate going downtown as well but as long I am there for 3 hours or less, I know I can park for free at Horton.
