Coupon Hits & 1 Fail...

I had to buy TC some makeup for dance so it was off to Macy's Mac counter.  While there, we used one of the newer coupons in the Entertainment Value book...

If you buy this, you also get extra online coupons by using their app, which is pretty cool. It's like doubling your investment...

The owners of the Nestle Toll House Cafe also happen to be Filipino American, which explains their big halo-halo poster.  The folks who work here are super nice as well...

My iced mocha (without whipped cream) and TC's taro boba shake...

Also during our same visit, we used this other coupon for our afternoon snack...

Yeah, you can't go wrong with corn dogs.

Our last coupon for that day was this. In fact I was quite excited because this was a new one and we wanted to pick up something for dinner that evening...

Unfortunately, the coupon was not "approved" according to the gal at the counter. She called the owner, Anselmo, who told her that the coupon was not valid which really sucked. He told her that somenone, not him, had approved this coupon to be in the book, but it really shouldn't have been in there. So, warning to those of you that have the book, this one's a dud.

I had already put in my order and didn't want to back out now, so I just bit the bullet on this one. While waiting for our food, I noticed the lower left corner of the chalkboard.

Dole Whip?

Yes please.

Rather, this is Hawaiian Style's version of Dole Whip since this was pretty thick and not as "liquidy" as the kind they serve at Disneyland.

The icy pineapple concotion was so refreshing on this super hot day.

At home, our dinner combos - grilled teriyaki steak and chicken katsu, both with rice and mac salad. This was the weekend before Labor Day if I recall. We had to leave early the next morning to make the long drive up to the Bay Area to attend my former student's wedding.

The meat was fatty and there was too much breading, so boo for this one. This was an expensive mistake.

One last coupon success was this one, over at Horton Plaza. Because each of the Wetzel's Pretzels are independently owned, they reserve the right to refuse these coupons. Luckily for TC and I, they accepted it.

I don't care if this is a chain, Wetzel's pretzel dog kicked ass on that weak one Bert and I  had at Tom n Tom's Coffee...

I still have coupons from last year's book to use up before the end of this year. Some of them are tried and true favorites, while others are new places that really entice me to make a visit. Then there are those coupons which aren't accepted (Homestyle Hawaiian, I'm talking to you) for lame reasons, or those businesses that don't exist anymore.

For those of you who aren't embarassed to save money by using coupons, you can also utilize the Get1Free website (which is free unlike the Entertainment value site)  and use the coupons on your smart phone, or if you're old school, print them out.

You're welcome!

I have NEVER tried dole whip but craved it for some reason the other day when we were in the Scripps/Poway area. I can't remember the ice cream place's name but they're known for their dole whip. No one in our group wanted to 'chance' not liking it so we ended up getting gelato/ice cream :( At least the dole whip you had trumped the rest of the food at the Hawaiian place. That's unfortunate they didn't take the coupon. I'm a HUGE fan of Hot Dog on a Stick. Miss them terribly at the UTC mall.

hi faye - i have not tried real Dole whip either. i can't really compare the one i had to anything else but in looking at pix of the real thing from Disneyland, it looks quite different. my daughter really likes hot dog on a stick. i like their cherry lemonade.

Man we were so close to trying Dole Whip last weekend... haha, too bad. Bummer about the coupon. I'll just have to throw that one away I guess. You're so hardcore about the coupons! :)

No kidding! Too bad they weren't open on Sunday. Yes, coupons are my friend. I love saving money!
