Roast Coach Coffee Bar, East Village

With the same numerical street address but a few blocks away was the second location of Roast Coach Coffee Bar, a small pour over coffee bar which had it's start in North Park.

This location is on the corner of 9th and J near the Southpaw Social Club, right on the edge of Petco Park...

It was time for my coffee fix...

A historical building this was...

The lone gal working the pourover bar was busy with customer orders. She was very friendly and patient while we decided on what we wanted.

Bert got the Death Before Cafe (it was pretty strong!) while I got the iced Southern Hospitality. This was Bert's second cup of coffee that morning. He's not a lightweight like me; he can handle it, ha ha. We already had pastries from Bake Sale, so we refrained (this time) from any of the tempting baked goods...

We enjoyed our drinks at Southpaw's tables, which were in the shade. It was already starting to warm up and as you all know, San Diego has been experiencing hotter than normal temperatures for nearly 100 days straight. My drink tasted like the coffee mint mojitos I've had, nice and sweet. It was a medium roast so it didn't taste as strong as a super dark one.

They didn't offer aebelskivers here like at their other pourover bar, but maybe if we're in this area again, we will try a pastry or two to go with our coffees.

We enjoyed both of our drinks here. The East Village is a bit out of our way but we were glad we stopped by that morning.

First attempt to go to the original Roast Coach:

Despite it's seemingly lonely location, there was a steady stream of customers, most likely downtown denizens. Once again, we enjoyed seeing all of the dog walkers. This time we saw a Yorkie, a Golden Lab, a Sharpei, a beagle, and a few other of those tiny dog breeds.

Do they do the pour over and then ice it? I kept reading it as "Roach Coach".... oops! :)

Come to think of it Mary, I don't recall! Bert remembers his coffee getting the pourover treatment. I remember the girl muddling my mint though. I wasn't paying close enough attention I'm afraid.

Yeah, I keep wanting to type Roach Coach, ugh! Ha ha!

This looks good. We used to be downtown all the time...need to go back once things cool down. Never have had coffee with mint; tea, yes, but not coffee...

I've never had mint in my ice coffee before. I'll have to try that next time. Have you ever tried to drink your coffee just black? I tried the other day and it just tasted so bitter. I can't understand how people drink coffee without milk and some sort of sugar.

hi cathy - bert's coffee was super strong! then he put in cream and sugar and all was well, haha. as for the mint in mine, Better Buzz does a mint mojito coffee. Not as good as Philz in Berkeley though.

Faye - give it a try. If not at this place, at Better Buzz (located in Mission Beach, a drive thru in PB and a kiosk in Fashion Valley in front of Urban Outfitters.

I have tried coffee black and do not like it at all! ugh! call me a lightweight, but i like mine sweetened.
