(sign seen in a window near the coffee shop)....
As you can see, the beach town of Cayucos has that old fashioned "Wild West" look and feel...

It was very quiet and sleepy that cloudy morning, but we enjoyed the peace and stillness...
Ocean Avenue is only a few blocks long. At the northern end is a beautiful and old Victorian home...

This is the Cass House, the home of Capt. James Cass, the founder of Cayucos, who also built the pier. The house is now an inn and fancy restaurant (tasting menu posted a few photos down).

A few steps away from Duckie's Chowder House and the Cayucos Candy Counter is the historic Cayucos Pier, which I mentioned in my previous post, "Welcome Back to Cayucos". The seaward portion of the pier was closed to the public and has been deemed unsafe. There is a local effort to "save the pier" by raising funds to rebuild it. A few weeks ago, I checked their website and it turns out that they raised enough money for the county to begin rebuilding this very month!

Southward view from the pier. In the distance, you can see Morro Rock in Morro Bay, only seven miles south.

The playground that TC played in three years ago...

View of the tidepools on the Northward side of the pier...

It was kind of sad to see the pier half closed but it's great knowing now that the pier will soon be restored.

I have so many "behind" shots of TC and Bert. She is now 5' 2"!

We met a few really nice locals on the pier. One lady pointed out several dolphins frolicking in the ocean which was really cool. She also told us that sometimes hundreds of them are there, but this was only just a few. She even said that whales have been known to come close to the beach. Wow!

By this time, the fog was starting to clear up...

Bert and TC went to see the tidepools later that afternoon but it was high tide so they couldn't really see much...

This was such a nice and relaxing morning...

made even more interesting with these hot rod looking vehicles...

I kept thinking, "Go Greased Lightning!"

It was time to head back to our room but first, we had to stop by the distinctive red building down the street...
