Seafood Friday Week 2 - Wild Yellow Tail Ceviche...and fish sticks

This will be a short and sweet post...

which will be followed by a longer and more detailed post about a newly remodeled market I recently visited this afternoon...

But first, one of the two "seafood" items we had for dinner tonight...

Yes. Fish Sticks. The Ultimate version - thick and meaty and less breading (but made with Panko)!

None of that Gorton's crap here.

Our simple and easy dinner for tonight...

Ceviche, pico de gallo and tostadas bought from Big Ben's Market in National City.

My visit was due to a trip from blog reader Marla  who was kind enough to email me that they sell COFFEE CRISP CANDY HERE!  0 _ o  Oh hell yeah, I was SO there.

The pico de gallo is made in house along with the wild yellowtail ceviche. They sell two brands of tostadas at BBM - one from a place in Escondido, and this brand, Carnival from the store of the same name located just a few blocks away. I opted to go with the National City brand and also because the guy helping me said he likes those better and that they are delivered fresh every morning. SOLD.

The tostadas were crunchy and not too thick or salty either. The pico de gallo was also fresh but not spicy (which was fine with me). The ceviche looked a bit on the mushy side since the meat was so fine. It was opaque enough and cooked by the lime juice...This was a nice change of pace for us. If I hadn't picked this up, dinner would have just been fish sticks or garlic shrimp quesadillas.

A more detailed post will follow about my shopping excursion to Big Ben...

I like fish ceviche more than shrimp ceviche. It feels like the right time of year(outdoor heat) for ceviche. Being Lent means I have to be creative for "no meat" meals. Can't wait to tryBig Bens

Lent Fridays are kind of fun trying different stuff every week. I think I like the texture of shrimp ceviche better than fish or maybe I haven't found a fish ceviche that wowed me (yet).
