on our way to visit Thane and his family in the Bay Area. Here are just a few highlight from our first day...
I thought the restaurant we originally wanted to go to for lunch was closed, so we went here instead...
This reminded me of Charley's Burgers in Spring Valley since it's right underneath a bridge...
Later we went to a hipster coffee joint...
named after a particular dog breed from Louisiana which was followed by some toroid sweets at this neighborhood mainstay...

Another dessert place we went to in northern Berkeley's so-called "Gourmet Ghetto"...
Thane did me a big favor and bought a half dozen kouign amann from a local coffee/wine bar which I knew carried these pastries from a bakery in Oakland...
Later that evening, grilled sausages and ribs with bread from Acme, courtesy of Thane...
