Bake This...or the Return to the Baked Bear

Despite my normal intense hatred aversion to driving in PB, or any beach area for that matter, I took my chances and headed up north from OB to PB...

The traffic gods were on my side as it was smooth sailing the whole way through, even when stuck behind this rather slow, but vintage Airstream trailer on Mission Blvd.

I'd only been to this place once before but with two young 'uns in tow, was glad for a revisit...

They have their own parking lot and once again, luck was on our side. There was parking galore in that lot, a sure sign that the tourists have all up and left and went back to Arizone or Hellay or wherever!

About that store Brandy Melville? It's got to be the most boring store ever in terms of variety, color, styles, and unclear price tags! Then again, I'm not the "demographic" which is a young and thin beach bunny. The clothing barely covers your boobs or ass and the colors range from light beige/sand to light denim (Ugh, remember Chambray in the 80's? Unfortunately it's back!). Everything is so beachy here. Yeah, I know, this is the damn beach area, not the hipster area. I only went in because TC and her friend wanted to look around. Anyways, rant over.

No, all I cared about was this (see the God's rays?)...

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with that sign!

We were each getting something different...

There were a few new things that weren't there last time, like this sign about optional toppings!

We should have gotten some of those! It's only .50 extra.

I'm not into cookies as much as TC and her friend...

Instead, I wanted waffles. But wait...something's different! They're round! When Cathy first went, it was square piece folded over. When I went back in July, it was two square pieces.

Now they are round. I wonder if people have mixed and matched the waffles with cookies for their ice cream sandwiches. Hmmm.

It was dead when we were there which was antisocial me liked very much. No crowds and no noise!

Here were our creations:

I was so happy when KDD told me she wanted the cookie/brownie combo -Red Velvet with brownie and cookie dough ice cream.

TC's cookies were Funfetti (shown on top here)...

and on the flipside, the M&M cookie (looks like she got shortchanged since it looks kinda sparse with the candy) with Mint Chip ice cream.

Both girls really enjoyed their ice cream sandwiches, so of course, this place was a "hit".

As you already know, I chose the "new" waffle ice cream sandwich with chocolate chip as the filling. I kind of wish they had more adventurous ice cream flavors here. I had coffee ice cream last time.

My sandwich was "toasted" in their contraption but the waffles didn't really taste toasted at all. They were not crisp on the outside like the one I had a few months ago. These were still kind of soft and my ice cream gushed out after a few bites. It was kind of messy and unwieldy to eat. I liked the square waffles better.

When I first heard that the ice cream place was called "The Baked Bear", I kind of laughed because it was in PB and well, you know the slang term for "baked" right?

Here's an example from the stoner flick, "Half Baked":

Well, that's what I think of when I hear the word "baked".  I don't buy it that it's called the "baked bear" because the owners really like to bake cookies. Uh huh.   Did you notice a younger Jon Stewart at the beginning of that clip? What about Jim Breuer, who has got to be one of the least successful SNL alums besided Chris Kattan ("Corky Romano" anyone?). This stoner movie didn't really help his career either.

I miss Chappelle:

Totally unPC!

One of these days, we'll have to bring Bert here. He already knows what he wants!

hi Jinxi- if you go on a weekday (skip work, ha ha), there shouldn't be any major traffic. on saturdays, forget it! :)

I liked the 'original' waffle because the thinner, square/rectangle shape reminded me of the Kresge's waffle ice cream sandwiches I had growing up. In any case, I'm glad I did happen upon here then...and, um, 'baked'...oh...sheltered life.
