Stuff from Zion

Ever since the new Zion Market opened up in late May, we've been going at least once every two weeks. We'd be there more often if we lived closer.

I made the trip up to pick up a few items for dinner that night since my MIL was staying with us...

It's always cool to see the latest developments as well.  I noticed that there was new signage that read "Food Plaza" that wasn't there before...

I made a quick stop at Paris Baguette as well. First, to ogle the beautiful cakes in their display case like this pretty Blueberry Yogurt cake...

along with the Strawberry Fresh Cream Cake, which CAB bought for her wedding anniversary last month.. So cute!

I was also attracted to te Blueberry Chiffon cake, especially the delicate "paint" decor. If I could change one thing about the fruit on top of the cakes, I would remove the grapes.

These were the pastries I selected that day...

A puff pastry wrapped hot dog for TC (her favorite) and the squid ink bread with a hot dog for me and TC. I really like the look of this.

For Bert, the Congolaise with a caramel center. This was like a macaroon cookie, very coconutty and the perfect bite size portion too.

I got the cannele again so Bert could try it. He ended up really liking it. It's small, eggy, dense, and has a deep caramelized flavor.

I love anything blueberry, so this was a first, the blueberry creamcheese pastry. I liked the lattice like top where you could see the fillings.

This was the corn crumb bread which I didn't really like. It tasted a bit dry to me but Bert thought it was all right.

At Zion, I headed straight over tot he takeout items in the back and got a selection of food for our easy no-cook dinner.

Here it is unwrapped and placed in more presentable serving ware. It was fun serving it "buffet style"; we hardly ever do that.

This was the fish pancake (pollack fish is used)..

Korea potato salad - there's a bit of sweetness in here with the cut up apples within.

Chapchae - Maybe I got a mediocre batch but the noodles didn' seem "springy" enough.

Seaweed salad:

This was something new for us, the Chive pancake. I don't know if we'd get this again. The chives were not cut, so the long stringy pieces kept getting caught in my teeth (sorry, not a pretty sight, heh heh).

And lastly, the Kimbap which TC really liked despite the pickled yellow radishes inside.

It's always fun trying new foods and Zion makes it really easy with their wide selection of takeout items for panchan and main entrees.

Yay! I'm finally on vacation! Woo hoo! Two weeks of doing nothing and at the same time, everything (foodwise that is)! Yes!

We have the same shopping list! So glad it's got good parking, but I miss the bakery in the corner. Looks like the old location is getting ready to open...

Can' wait to see what the old Zion will be like. I liked the bakery in there too, especially their hot dog bread with the ketchup already on it.

Oh those cakes look so pretty! I've been trying to avoid the bakery when I go to Zion lately because I just end up with so many sweets and the line is usually so long.

Yes, those cakes are gorgeous. I saw that Carol tried one and i am curious to try it as well. I just need an "excuse" to get a whole cake, haha. our birthdays are long past and so is our anniversary. :(
