A couple of the places are not yet open, Cocohodo and Spotted Cow.
Astroboi was excited to check out the new Zion so off we went...
The following photos are products we found amusing such as this beverage called JPop. I think these are like wine coolers or some sort of fruit flavored alcoholic drink.

The soup aise had some interesting flavors...

In the back near the fish were these uber cute containers with a handle. Inside were those little fruity jelly cups.

One of these days I'll have to buy some short rib here to make some Nillaga (a Filipino soup).

Remember the fried gizzards we had at Crispy Fried Chicken and Seafood? Well, here they are unadorned by fried breading.

In the fresh produce area, they had TONS of garlic galore - whole, crushed, and chopped as well as INDUSTRIAL sized bags of 'em!

We'd never seen gingko nuts in the shell before..

This was funny. There were packages of Korean pancake mix and next to it, Aunt Jemina syrup.

Kenko and Kewpie brand mayo. Cute drawings! My sis loves using the Kewpie mayo for her Seafood Dynamite recipe.

The snack aisle also were a great source of amusment with the bright and colorful packaging and super cute drawings of inanimate objects like sweet potatoes!

Some of the chip bags had Korean dudes on 'em. Famous personalities perhaps?

This was the Wall of Fake Krab sticks!

They had mochi cakes with assorted fruit bean paste fillings. These are kind of gummy tasting. I've only had the kind from the Japanese stores.

There are rows upon rows of dumplings in every shape, flavor, and size.

Some of the aisles had these huge bags filled with snacks. Look at those! Who eats that much snacks? There were these ring like snacks and some other we saw that were multicolored ball corn puffs.

This was a fish cake assortment for soup.

Korean sodas...

and fruit drinks...

Fake Spams/luncheon meats:

The wooden sticks are earwax scrapers. Nice.

We thought these boiled egg molds were so cute! I was so tempted to buy one!

We spent quite a bit of time perusing each aisle and picking up a few items here and there for fun.
It was time to show Astroboi the glory that is Paris Baguette.
TC wanted me to pick up the hot dog bread for her. I debated getting this version (below),

but ended up getting her the hot dog that's wrapped completely in puff pastry, not the open faced one.
Our tray - the hot dog bread, chocolate croissant and blackout bread for Astroboi and our two bite sized desserts.

We saw some unfrosted cakes ready to be decorated.

In the back of the cafe, Astroboi was enamored of these straws. The thicker ones are boba straws.

He, uh, took a few of these straws home!
I had the mini puff pastry with cream and berries while Astroboi had the cute little custard filled strawberry tart which he really enjoyed. These were the perfect size and both were less thatn $2 each too.

Cocohodo is not quite ready to go yet. I'm so curious about it; they are known for their walnut pastries.

I wonder when it will be open? Maybe in time for the first ever San Diego Night Market event for Saturday night?
I swear, everytime I go to Zion there is always something new! It's fun to see the evolution! It was also nice going here during the mid-week when it's not so crazy crowded like the weekends.

Happy Birthday Astroboi! So glad he got to see Zion and now has a permanent record of but a few of the fascinating advertising techniques and unusual food items offered (I always think if I resealed those giant bagged snacks, they'd get stale before we'd be half through it). Nice he got to experience Paris Baguette.
hi cathy, actually astroboi's bday was in late may (we went to Ono's Cafe for that occasion. we just went out for fun since we hardly see each other except during my breaks, but thank you. :) he enjoyed our little trip to Zion especially seeing the cute items and also the more interesting ones like the canned silk worms.
yeah, those huge bagged snacks are something else. i mean, who so big? can a small family really eat that much of those snacks? is it made for parties? the wierd things i think about...
Ooh, I didn't know they sell those cute molds at Zion! I need to go buy one.
hi kirbie - yes, they are only $2.99. there is one with a fish and a car and the bunny and bear (which I like better).
