Tokyo Grill & In 'n Out Burger

The other night we hosted TC's very first sleepover and SURVIVED. Six teen/tween girls.

The girls were out before noon. Later that evening, we took TC and two other friends (one classmate and KDD) to see this manufactured boyband propaganda movie directed by, of all people, Morgan "Supersize Me" Spurlock:

Well, I just bought the tickets but we did not watch it ourselves...

I still cringe from having to watch that Justin Bieber flick a few years ago...

To kill time Bert and I resorted to window shopping, browsing, and enjoyed a snack before taking the girls to a late dinner after the movie...

There was actually a line for the movie which was set up hours ahead of time. It was more than an hour and a half before the scheduled showtime and there was a horde of eight year olds and their moms plus two stray dads waiting. The girls were shrieking and jumping around. Bert and I laughed and said to the tween/teens, "Good luck hearing anything in the theatre!"!

OMG!  OMG! Liam! Harry! Zayn! Niall! Louis!

I'll give them another year of two of shelf life, then after their voices crack, they'll be replaced by yet another boy band.

We didn't want to eat a big meal since we were saving our appetites for In-n-Out so we ordered just one roll here:

It's right next to Hot Dog on a Stick.

I don't know if this food qualifies as being "gourmet"...

There was one lone dude working here and we thought they were closed. He was just cleaning up early.

We ate outside in the newly repaved and refurbished food pavilion.

Our crunchy shrimp tempura roll.

Yay for panko crumbs.

It actually sprinkled a bit that night. If you recall, it was quite hot and humid a few days ago. Big fat droplets fell on us so we took shelter at the mall's Barnes and Noble bookstore before getting the girls.

It's nice when it's not crazy crowded in here.

I love that shirt that Bert's wearing. It was only $3 from the Goodwill in La Mesa. It's by Threadless, known for their limited edition print shirts. The design has penguins driving an ice cream truck, but the penguins are all armed with guns.

The girls had a regular hamburger and a cheeseburger. Bert had the double double and I had a regular burger as well.

The double double was enjoyed immensely.

Everyone but me had an order of fries. I'm not to crazy about the fries here. Although they are made fresh, they have are pretty bland and get stale quickly. I'd rather eat McD's fries or Rally's.

The girls enjoyed the movie which they likened as a documentary mixed with real concert footage, which was made more exciting since it was in 3-D:

Those movie tickets cost $14! Dayum! Well, that's cheaper than going to an actual concert ($100 and up)! TC and KDD actually camped out above the Sleeptrain (formerly Cricket and Coors) Amphitheater and "listened" to their concert in early August (with KDD's parents supervising). They heard the whole concert pretty clearly and compared the setlists they heard that night to the one they heard in the movie.

One  funny thing that happened that night while we were in B&N bookstore was a conversation I overheard from these young girls.  I was at the magazine racks and these girls were looking at these teen magazines which featured the guys from One Direction and some other boyband I don't remember the name of. I could understand what they were saying in Spanish. They were jeering the other boyband saying they were "horrible" and "feos" (ugly) while the 1-D guys were "muy guapos" (very handsome). They were saying a few more vicious things about the other guys too. So funny.

If I wasn't the parent of a tween, I would have no idea who One Direction was, ha ha!  I'm sure her obsession will change in a year or so!

I bet I would have been pretty excited if New Kids on the Block had a 3D movie out when I was young, haha. I had no idea One Direction was that big until recently heh.
