Something about cold noodles on a hot day is so refreshing...
We also wanted to try something new instead of the same old same old...
Besides Pho Convoy nearby, one of our stand by places is Pho Hiep & Grill Chateau (a rather unwieldy name). This place is related to the Pho Hiep on the other end of Telegraph Canyon Road (near the 805 and Vons) as well as the original Pho Hiep in Linda Vista. This is the more "upscale" one in East Chula Vista.

Their menu has morphed over the years, adding fusion-y type entrees.

We all ordered something new plus one "old" item (the banh xeo which I love here).

This was the Pork and Shrimp salad which was quite refreshing with the sweet, sour and herbacious flavors, the crunchy peanuts and two kinds of protein.

TC ordered bun with barbecued pork. She normally orders beef or short ribs (at Pho Convoy). I had a tiny bit of this and really liked it. I might just try this next time. I just thought the amount of pork was too much though.

Bert got the Com Tam House Special plate which had several types of pork (steamed loaf, grilled,, a pork chop, shredded pork skin) and a few pieces of shrimp. He liked the variety and enjoyed the pork chop the best and the loaf the least. The texture was a little too "spongy" for him and probably could have done without it.

I really like how they do their banh xeo here. The crepe itself is not overly huge and the batter is not soggy at all. I love the crisp edges and the crispness overall.

I was really craving something that was light and fresh and had greens (the herb plate included pickled daikon and carrots, flat leaf chives, lettuce, purple perilla, and mint). Below, the innards of the crepe.

Having the greens made me feel like I was eating something healthy, and therefore I didn't feel as "guilty", ha ha.
