Donut Stop

We weren't quite done with the day yet though.

At the strip mall across the street from Pho Cow Calli and Namaste is the other strip mall with Lucky Seafood and Pho Lucky...

I like to be "efficient" whenever we're out and about and it was a good thing this other spot was nearby...

Both Cathy and Mary have been to Donut Stop (links are at the end of this post). I was interested in trying their blueberry donut and their cream puffs.

As we were trolling for parking, Bert noticed how WIDE this lane was!

Donut Stop is next to a dentist and barbershop. A few shops away is yet another Valerio's bakery which we skipped out on today (despite my curiosity to see if they had my favorite heart shaped mamon, or the "kepeng", which are sugared crackers).

There is no A/C in here. A fact duly noted since it was about 85+ outside!

Prices are non-hipster (less than $3 each), normal and affordable.

An elderly Asian gentleman was working there that day. I asked if he had any more blueberry donuts left and he said, "Yes, I have TWO left, just for you!" which I thought was cute, so of course, I had to get the last two. I also ordered three of their mini cream puffs.

We didn't try any of their other donuts that day as good as they looked (oh, those old fashioneds!).

TC liked the random decorations here...

and this other sign as well, next to a picture of what appears to be a Wild West robbery scene!

Merlin on a gumball machine?

Here were the last two blueberry donuts and SIX cream puffs. I thought I only ordered three, so it was a pleasant surprise to see three extra in the bag!

The cream puffs probably would have tasted better fresh, but they were still a nice sweet bite. Nowhere near as good as the ones from Mary's in Santee which are light, fluffy, and delightfully covered in powdered sugar.

The blueberry donuts were FRIED with a sugar glaze. They were not as "crisp" or as dark as the ones from Mel's Donuts in Anaheim. If you are into natural tasting blueberry or those fancy frou frout gourmet donuts, then you won't like this. But if you like that boxed blueberry muffin taste but in FRIED toroid form, then these are for you! Me not picky!

I liked the color and the fake blueberry bits.

Here is that mini cream puff:

Bert liked the blueberry donut from Mel's better but he's not going to drive an hour and a half for that!

These were a satisfying sweet bite to enjoy after our lunch earlier today. And yes, this was our SECOND dessert since we already had those kulfi bars.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...we are so lucky to live in San Diego!

Beautiful sunny weather almost every day and a plethora of good eats all over our county...

Who else went to Donut Stop?

Cathy -The Elephant in the room - Donut Shops (December 2012)
and Mary - Happy National Donut Day (June 2013) - she also got some extra cream puffs from the same man!

Here is another review I dug up:

There is no website but here are the reviews from yelp where the blueberry donuts were described as "orgasmic" (I wouldn't go THAT far but they are pretty good), ha ha.

hi kirbie - it's closer to home than Mel's or M&M's at least.

Thanks to you, I now check out blueberry donuts wherever I am- and just found out about a blueberry apple fritter. The blueberry donut here is unique and I like it. I really like the man who works at Donut Stop- I think he may live there.

oh wow, really? gosh!

now where can this blueberry apple fritter be found? that sounds pretty good! I still like that blueberry fruit burrito from mary's.

the man working here is very nice. once he's done with a customer, he goes back to the back room, though, haha.

That guy had been working in that shop FOREVER. I remember him from when I was in high school, man. He has always given me free donut holes or cream puffs, he rocks! No one else gives free things. This is right around the corner from my house so, suffice it to say, I have been here a lot and it satisfies my donut craving quite well. Nothing fancy or gourmet, just regular old donuts. :)

hi Mary - Whoa, that's a long time, eh, ha ha! that old man is awesome! super nice!

One time, one of the male workers at Mary's gave TC a free cream puff. That was the only other time we got something free (which was not asked for).

i like regular donuts. gourmet is okay once in awhile, but regular is what i prefer.
