You had to sign up for a day and time to "claim" your torta. TC willingly came along to help sample this new menu item...
This is what it's supposed to look like and those are the three choices and price points. I chose the grilled Atlantic salmon...

As we were waiting for our food (I also ordered a fish taco for TC), the girl working the counter asked if I could please fill out a survey after having tried the torta...

I don't have much experience with tortas or the bread used for tortas, but I thought this was pretty good. The bread had a nice spring to it. It also soaked up the sauce quite nicely. If you haven't been to Rubio's lately, they've changed things up with their serving ware and utensils. Real plates and real silverware not. Anyhow, the torta was served already cut in half and with a side of chips.
Now because this was free, fine. But...if I actually planned to buy this for $8.49, I would expect at least rice and/or beans along with the chips, or better yet, the option of having a side salad with the torta. I would have liked that instead of chips. I made sure to note that in the comments. Or am I being a tightass? The portion was just right. I ate only half because I wanted Bert to try it later on. TC enjoyed a bite or two as well. If I was super hungry, then I could have finished the whole thing.

The cross section - the salmon had a flavorful, caramelized exterior. Very tasty. The torta was a bit messy to eat because the fish fell out in chunks, as did the chopped up lettuce. Perhaps they should one big piece rather than two or three small ones. Rather than chopped up lettuce, maybe have a few layered lettuce leaves as well.

The sauce was also quite tasty. It looked like pesto, but it obviously wasn't. I should have asked what was in it (makes note to self to ask next time I come in).

The other grilled fish option was mahi mahi while the pollock was beer battered. The girl also said the tortas come with chicken, but since my voucher was for "seafood", I wanted the seafood. I thought it was a good opportunity to try something new...
Would I get this again? I hesitate because of the price point, lack of side options (only chips), and the chunky fish pieces. It's still delicious though so maybe, just maybe I would.
You can get freebie offers like this, along with online coupons and a free lunch on your birthday if you sign up on their website for the Beach Club. This was probably the coolest offer I got from them, besides getting this gigantor reusable shopping bag. So yeah, if you're into Rubio's, it might be worth it to do the Beach Club for their offers.
