Return to Otay Farms Market

After our lunch at Boll Weevil, we headed just a short distance up the 5 to the Main St. exit. Hang a right on Broadway and you will see this...

I wanted to see if they had still had a particular potato chip flavor...

This was Bert's first time here...

TC likes avocados and saw this big one for only .99.

Now, this item was quite intriguing to us. TC was curious and  wanted to get it so we did. This is a prickly pear cactus fruit (or a 'tuna' in Spanish).

I don't have a photo of the cross section, but it was light green with many seeds. The taste was very light and watery and a bit "vegetal". It didn't have much flavor. Bert didn't really enjoy it because of the seeds.

Our second visit yesterday, we bought some bell peppers, Granny Smiths (Bert's favorite),  and two Ataulfo mangoes (TC's favorite). Now I need to figure out how to utilize those peppers this week...

All right, now here's the HOLY GRAIL...

Drum roll please...

Ta-da!

Mixed in among the Tapatio flavored Ruffles and the Chile Limon Lay's chips was this, Spicy Ketchup Chips!

Hallelujah!

We haven't seen Ketchup chip anything since our Canada trip. The flavor really grew on us and we really missed it.  This auspicious find was thanks to a tip from  Cathy of Mmm-Yoso, who spied these chips hidden at the bottom of a chips  display a few days before my visit.

I bought FOUR bags during my visit last week. ($1.49 each). There were about left in the store. After snarfing down three bags over the course of a week (with Bert and TC's help), one lone bag remained. It needed its brothers and sisters so yesterday, we went to check if there were more and sadly, only ONE was left. I guess other people liked these too. Needless to say, we bought that last bag and will save it for awhile until we can find more of these chips! Please restock the Lay's chips Otay Farms!

Previous visit here during the Epic Southbay Food Crawl last year with Dennis. Speaking of which, here is his post which includes all of our stops, including Otay Farms Market

Our next stop was a new Mexican ice cream/juice place. I wanted to get the taste of those red onions out of my mouth!

Ohh, I wonder if I can find a bag, too for Jake. He's a serious ketchup lover (me, not so much).

Completely missed this post! Otay Farms Market is our latest destination, with stops along the way. I saw those chips at a 7-11 in Encinitas and would think the Frito Lay delivery guy delivers the same chips to places in those parts of town...
