Dinner at Siam Imperial + Oasis (again)

The new school year started...

and I was glad that the first week was finished, hence, a Friday night out for us two...

TC had about a month left of summer vacation before she starts up at SDSU on the day of her 18th birthday no less.

Bert and I made the short trek out to IB for one of our go-to spots, Siam Imperial. We were hoping our favorite waiter would be there, and why yes, he was.

The second on the list was new to me.  Had to order it.

Bert's beer and  my iced coffee before mixing the cream.

Spring rolls - I didn't realize these would come pre-cut into smaller pieces. Not sure if I liked this. Plus there were two sauces, a sweet relish with carrot slivers and peanuts and a thick peanut sauce.  Usually it's just peanut sauce only.  Perhaps they wanted to give people a choice? I liked the peanut sauce better. TC would have enjoyed these rolls. They were mostly lettuce with tofu.

Pad see ewe with shrimp and broccoli because Bert was craving broccoli. There were about seven large shrimp in here.  Noodles had a nice chew with some caramelized edges, which we liked.

Here's that appetizer which is basically ground up shrimp formed into balls with a hole poke through. It's covered with crumbs and yes, it is DEEP FRIED GOODNESS. The lemongrass spear is purely ornamental, ha ha.  These are also larger than I thought they would be.  Thought it was kind of odd to see an appetizer presented this way, but omg, this was gone pretty quickly.

The sauce, according to the menu was supposed to be plum sauce. It tasted like a thinned out sweet chili sauce to me.

We shared the refreshing hrimp and asparagus salad which we've enjoyed before. The mixture of finely chopped peppers and onions with the crisp asparagus , creamy avocado and succulent shrimp was on point.

Afterwards, we stopped by Oasis shortly before they were going to close to pick up a few paletas to go.  There was a line even at 8:40 pm.  Only one person was working but no one seemed to mind waiting since the line moved pretty quickly.

I love how they keep it old school here. They had cups and cones. I always gets cups.

They have the best housemade flavors here. Mr. Andrade would be proud that his legacy with the shop lives on.

You can't beat these prices.

Glamor shot of the paletas we brought home, which were slightly melted (oh no!) - watermelon, strawberry and cream, pistachio, coffee, peanut butter chocolate and walnut.

Enjoyed over the next day!

So glad that South Bay has a really nice Thai restaurant with a twist on their offerings; they don't skimp on quality and the ambiance is really nice. The clientele is also chill; it is IB after all. Worth the drive for us for both Siam and Oasis!
