Summer Road Trip 2018 Day 2 - Coffee & pastries from Intelligentsia, Venice + random street art

It was a short walk from the canals to Intelligentsia...

One thing about going early is that it's more peaceful out and there are no crowd...

There is an inner courtyard to get to the coffee spot, with stadium seating on your right (not pictured) and a mural near the walkway.  While there isn't a lot of seating in side Intelligentsia, the ceilings are high with an sleek industrial feel. There were so many pastries that caught our eye but we settled on two. The croissants happened to be from Mr. Holmes Bakeshop in Highland Park.

Iced cold brew (with added milk & sugar) + macchiato proper & croissants (raspberry rose + peach):

As expected, the macchiato was excellent. The croissants were awesome - so very crispy, flaky and buttery.  The peach filled croissant is something that I'd get again.

TC selected our lunch destination which required a walk through the neighborhoods again.  Somewhere along the way to lunch, we saw this interesting art installation.  At first glance, it looked almost like....Hitler? But after reading the stencilled letters on the sidewalk, realized it was the founder of Venice Canals himself, Abbot Kinney. Indeed, the name sake of the boulevard we had just traversed, rife with upscale shops and eateries. The art installation was painted in 2013, but was scrubbed away in 2016 and obviously, added back to the sidewalk.

Very creative art!

Somewhere in Venice...this mural of Bernie Sanders was on someone's house!

This was striking:

On the sidewalk near our lunch destination...

At this time, we were already "hangry"...I was happy that TC took the initiative to plan our lunch spot. I was curious about this place...
