I'm talking about a Trolley Adventure...
but this time, sans TC who had a sports event that day. It was just me and Bert up super early on MLK Day...

The last time we used our Compass card for the trolley was a couple of years ago during our last Trolley Adventure. Once you have the card, it's good for a few years. You can load it up for $5 for a full day. The card itself is $2. We found it's worth it to pay for the whole day so you're not paying piecemeal.
Since it was a holiday, there weren't a lot of riders heading downtown on the Blue Line. It was a pretty quiet ride...

Passing through Barrio Logan above and below, stalled after the Civic Center stop.

We walked from the Santa Fe Depot stop to our first coffee location, which was originally going to be a Portland import, Coava Coffee Roasters.
I saw the Copa Vida sign from afar and asked Bert if we could go there as well since both coffee stops were on the same street within a block of each other.

It was nice being up and about in the early morning hours. No crowds, no rush of humanity.

The folks working here were really nice; one of the baristas said the company was expanding to Glendora. I excitedly told her about The Donut Man which is also in Glendora. She had never heard of it but seemed interested when I told her about his famous seasonal strawberry and peach donuts.

We kept our orders simple since we were going to have a double dose soon enough. Machiato for him and cortado for me.
The space is huge in here. Right near these vintage chairs and really cool table with three different levels was an unspoken line of demarcation (there were even dividing curtains pushed aside). There was a "common area" farther back which belonged to the general building which coffee customers could utilize.

My cortado - smooth as always. No cream or sugar needed.

Bert's macchiato - More leaded than mine since the amount of milk was much less (almond in this case).

Both perfectly made cups.

There's a Carlsbad location, but that's pretty damn far. I need to have another compelling reason to go up north to make the trip worthwhile.
