Happy Hour at Cucina Sorella

My last Friday of winter break was spent meeting friends..

in this case, I met up with Mr. TJ...

as well as our former student who graduated UCLA last year and is headed to med school. After hanging out for a tiny bit at Mr. TJ's pad in Talmadge, we headed to nearby Kensington for Happy Hour at Cucina Sorella. We last met up with our former student back in December 2016 at Uptown Tavern, also for Happy Hour.

We got there pretty early to avoid crowds and were seated at the bar.  Loved the swaggy chandeliers and the pillows at the tables.

The guys let me select the majority of the appetizers that we shared; Mr. TJ really wanted the fries.

Since I wasn't driving, I had a vodka cocktail with cucumber and elderflower, which was very refreshing.

Hot sausage and burrata flatbread:

Spicy fra diavolo fries with housemade ketchup:

Chicken liver pate with assorted breads (from Bread & Cie):

Pate is one of Mr. TJ's favorite things to eat; he hadn't tried Sorella's version though.

Of the three items, I liked the spicy sausage and burrata the best, although it was kind of rich. So much for trying to eat healthy during the holidays.  I didn't want to have heavy fare that evening, but it ended up being so. I'll get back on the ball next week, I swear I will.

Previous visit to Cucina Sorella:
June 2017 when Bert and I had our pre-anniversary dinner

It was nice spending time with our former student who will hopefully be a doctor within ten years time. As educators, we often don't know how we affect our students until years later or sometimes even never.  Back then and now, he was always organized, dynamic, goal oriented and positive.  After graduating UCLA early last year and having a taste of working in the bio-tech world in the Bay Area, he is ready to move on to pursue his future career.  It's great that he has kept in touch with both of us throughout the years.  We are hoping to hang out one more time before he heads off to med school later this year.

Only a few more days left until it's back to the grind.
