As per our previous lunches, she always has the honors of choosing a place...
She's always in the know for interesting and good places to try out. In this case, she suggested The Good Seed Food Co., which is located in a industrial park complex which houses a brewery along with a meadery. Yes, Mead (I was already conjuring up Norsemen quaffing huge metal cups at a feast).

Yelp had their opening time listed at 11 am. Googlemaps was 12 noon. [as of this writing, on 2/3 both have changed to 11:30 am). So here we were wondering why the place was closed. We were peering and by chance, a guy (who ended up being the chef) opened the door and said they would be opening at noon. We explained to him that they were listed as having an 11 am opening time on blah blah blah. I mentioned that we were on our lunch break (throwing in that I drove all the way from Chula Vista, ha ha) and were looking forward to this place. I guess that must have worked because he let us in and said he would cook for us.

Inside there is a bar, this is for the brewery and meadery. You could sit anywhere inside or outside, which we did.

Their menu changes every week. It's short and simple, which is good. We ordered the Veggie Stir Fy and the Crispy Pork Belly. The chef mentioned he made "spent" cookies for dessert. These are cookies made with the "spent" hops and other ingredients that go into beer making. We were curious so we got an order of that as well.

Outside seating...

Our plates which we shared and those "cookies":

Ah yeah...the pork belly. While it was not as crisp as described, each piece was butter soft and flavorful. The broccolini and tomatoes were roasted with a Meyer Lemon citronette. This was a great dish that we both enjoyed.

The vegetable stir fry included more of that broccoli, orange cauliflower and celery with a ginger kumquat sauce. We could taste the citrus more than the ginger, but this was also pretty delicious.

As for these...

They were interesting. If it weren't for the chocolate chips, this would have been less palatable. The chef said he doesn't like wasting ingredients and made these cookies with the spent hops. They were not really sweet at all and were dense. They were not like a traditional cookie and, gosh, I giv eup. I'm trying to be diplomatic but that's not happening. I didn't like this and they tasted "uncooked". Mary's co-workers hated the cookie; one of them said it tasted like "hay". Ha ha, I can see that.

But we were willing to give this "dessert" a try.

The chef served us and came out periodically to check up on us. He was really nice for making our meal considering they weren't officially open. Turns out the opening hours were incorrect online but no one had changed it. At least he didn't turn us away. I wouldn't mind coming here again with Bert (maybe during an upcoming break) to try his other creations...just not those cookies though!
