I didn't want to wait in a long line...
Luckily there wasn't a line at 11 am. We were there twenty minutes prior and decided to kill some time at Blick and then walk back. We were behind two young women right before they opened.

Salt & Straw, a company from Portland, soft opened several weeks prior and after that, had super long lines full of folks waiting to try bougie ice cream.
You can see San Diego's flavor list here:

The James Coffee is local as well as the PB Stout (from Belching Beaver Brewery):

Our morning treats:

No cone for me - my flavors were Peanut butter stout with chocolate chicharron + roasted srawberry and toasted white chocolate. The stout is from Belching Beaver brewery in North Park. The chicharron bits, interspersed in the ice cream and covered with dark chocolate, provided a salty and sweet taste sensation. It wasn't really crunchy, but tasted like small salty nuggets. The strawberry ice cream was very rich and had a lot caramelized white chocolate bits within.

Bert's cone were the vegan flavors. One the bottom was the Chocolate hazelnut fudge and on the top, the Happy Birthday Elvis (banana coconut ice cream with swirls of marionberry jam and peanut butter fudge with candied coconut bits meant to taste like "bacon"). The marionberry jam was a great flavor choice; we were expecting grape or strawberry in this.

We enjoyed our ice cream in the store while we watched the line grow longer and longer. You also need to know that you can sample whichever flavors you want; the employees here are patient as well as cheerful. I don't know how they do it. I know I would go nuts myself, ha ha. Their ice cream was very rich and the flavors quite intense. Bert and I originally considered the flight, but it was cheaper for us to each split one scoop into two flavors than to get the flight of four flavors for $11.50 (it was $9 back in 2012 in Portland; Mary also paid $9 in 2015 during her PDX trip).
As we were walking back to the trolley stop, I snapped a pic of this small stand alone Mexican eatery, which I found out later was now closed for good.

Earlier, a mural on Blick's wall, featuring Marvin the Martian from Warner Brother's cartoons.

Here's a clip on Marvin the Martian's history:

Classic!
Somewhere along Ketnner Blvd., this cool brick building with old ads...

Construction galore over here...

Plus street art!

Not sure who the artist was though.
Who else has been to Salt & Straw?
Kirbie went shortly after their grand opening earlier this month. Mary also went and I will link her post once it's up.
Here's my older post on Salt & Straw in PDX (the NE Albert St. location) in 2012, along with Mary's (she went to the location on SE Division ) in 2015 - where she, Jake and T enjoyed the tasting flight!

We'll have to do another one of these much much sooner than a span of a year. We noticed that there will be an extension of the Blue Line which will one day lead to UCSD. That will be handy for students, especially down south.
