when I pretty much swore off donuts...
I get into those food ruts where you intensely like something for a short period of time then you get sick of it just as easily as you got into it. That was Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs Cereal for me back in the mid 90's. The current equivalent is donuts but the siren's call was luring me in once again.
TC and I had our cold drinks at the newly opened Grinds and Vine and since we were in the area, a familiar mantra, I know, I thought we'd come by to check their flavors. The first thing I noticed is that there are more tables (with umbrellas, thank goodness!) outside! The tables used to be inside but have sinced moved outdoors due to the Nomad foyer space getting smaller. They moved up their counter and there is literally only space now to order and then pick up any napkins, sugar packets, or whatever before leaving. There is no place to wait around inside. They also got more equipment and racks.

Their drinks menu seems to have expanded plus they had a new donut themed art show featuring the Simpsons...

Our half dozen:

And now at home...

Green Apple Sage:

Thai tea cruller:

This was on the "eggy" side and not as light and airy as I thought it could have been.
The ever popular Ube taro coconut:

Always a good choice.
Thai PB Chocolate:

This was really gross tasting to me. Bert on the other hand liked it. I didn't like the spices int he frosting.
Black currant chili:

Tart glaze.
TC's Vanilla bean:

Here are the innards of the Thai tea...

It has that eggy bready look. I loved how it looked on the outside but the texture was not that great for me.
Previous visit to Nomad:
"Donuts 'n coffee @ Nomad & Calabria..." April 2015 during my birthday foodcrawl with Bert
Wow, that was a five month hiatus from Nomad...I was pretty good in terms of "keeping away" until today. Of the entire half dozen, my favorite in terms of taste was the Ube taro coconut. As for texture, I liked the Thai tea cruller. The worse tasting was the Thai Chocolate PB donut. It tasted like curry or something. Ugh.

I'm amused to see the previously named "iced vietnamese" coffee is now called "panther milk". Seems more appropriately named since there was hardly any coffee in that drink when I tried it! The Thai tea donut looks so pretty! It looks like some recipes I've seen online for homemade crullers. Too bad the texture wasn't quite up to par. Interesting note on the Thai PB Chocolate.. I wonder what spices they actually put in there, sounded like it would be a peanut-sauce like donut.
Wtf, panther milk? I thought that was a stupid name. I can make my own VN iced coffee for cheaper and better too.
Thai spiced donut = gross.
