to just a few doors down around the corner where the Ms. Vintage boutique used to be...

is the new location of Heaven Sent Desserts...
where we stopped after checking out the Art Produce Gallery...

Over the summer, I saw the old location get shuttered while construction went on a few doors down. A previous article (linked at the end of this post) stated that Heaven Sent would be going to a bigger spot, namely the Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge a block west. However, that obviously didn't happen and it turns out that Heaven Sent downsized and took over the space of a former clothing store.

I remember peeking in over the summer to see if it was ready and automatically assumed it was just a counter to order cakes with no place to sit. Well, they actually had some decent seating inside. The mirrors make the space appear larger as well.

In addition to the case in front which has full cakes, there are smaller portions in the other display case on the side.

We were just going to "look" but decided to give them a try this time. I think I'm going to swear off desserts after this month. My pants aren't fitting the way they used to...
The Peanut Butter Joy and the Red Velvet cheese cake.

This was a hybrid cake and cheese cake that TC really liked (the one third that she had).

Bert and I enjoyed the PB Joy much more than the red velvet. There was a lot of PB flavor going on and the best part, for me, at least, was the chocolate crumb crust.

Bert and I ordered one macchiato to share. We were wondering why it was taking awhile to get our drink; the young lady working there said that something was wrong with the espresso machine and she tried to make it again. Same result. So, she gave us another drink (which cost more but didn't charge us the difference), the Dutch Mint which was really good! As a consolation, she also gave us a free bag of chocolate chip cookies, which was quite unexpected and very generous of her. She apologized again for the delay.

The cookies were enjoyed later the next day; they were exactly how I like my chocolate chip cookies, thin and crisp. I don't like soft chewy cookies. These were perfect and had a good ratio of chocolate chips to cookie.

Earlier that morning, it rained and the skies were still on the gray side.

For comparison, here is my very first post on Heaven Sent
"Buon Apetito and Heaven Sent Desserts" October 2006 (what!!!). This was the first place in San Diego that I saw and tasted macarons. Now you can get them anywhere, well not really, but you know what I mean. Macs are much more prevalent than back in the dinosaur days of nearly a decade ago.

The desserts are on the pricy side ($6.75 each). The coffee/drinks list were on par with other coffee shops in the area. It's great that they are back in business. I remember when Heaven Sent Desserts first opened in 2006 and North Park was still kind of a "shady" neighborhood. A lot has changed over nine years, eh.

I went here recently to get Jake's favorite red velvet cupcake for his birthday and was quite surprised to see the new space was so much smaller than the old one. I liked the old space and how it felt like you could lounge around and hang out with your dessert whereas here there's hardly any room. Oh well. Maybe the rent of the other spot was too much for them. At least it didn't go far! That's nice the girl gave you another drink plus a bag of cookies - score! The peanut butter dessert looks yummy - I think I've had it before but now I can't remember. It's definitely something I would pick.
It's bigger than I thought it would be, but still smaller than their previous digs. I think their desserts are priced on the higher side though. The girl kept apologizing, she felt so bad. We weren't upset or anything. Sometimes the machines will act up.
