Belated birthday breakfast for Astroboi @ The Mission, North Park

It's been a long six months since I last hung out with my dear friend Astroboi...

We'd gone out for my birthday back in April and were supposed to go out the following month for his...

but those plans were postponed since a lot was going on with him at the time.  I was so happy that we were able to finally meet up earlier this morning. This time for a belated birthday breakfast at a restaurant of his choice, in this case, The Mission in North Park.

We lucked out by getting the last table. There were two families waiting before us but since they had five or more people, seating wasn't available for them but it was for us. So score.  I'd never been to the Mission but see it all the time whenever we're up in North Park. There are two other locations in San Diego, East Village and Mission Beach.

We both got savory breakfasts. I'm not one for pancakes (very rare) and they didn't have waffles (sad face). Soy Chorizo wasn't going to do it for me, so the Hangar steak hash and eggs it was. For him, Chicken Apple Sausage with eggs.

Both of our entrees came with crisp potato hash, eggs prepared to our liking (both scrambeld) and grilled rosemary bread. I would say it verged upon being burnt.  Astroboi was given a side of blackberry jam for his bread. He and I both didn't think it tasted good with the rosemary bread.

My steak was done well but still pink and juicy. I really liked the crisp parts of the potato hash. The eggs were okay. The bread, I probably would have liked better if it wasn't rosemary but there was no other choice.

The chicken apple sausages were good. I probably would have ordered that if Astroboi hadn't chosen it first. And of course, we can't have two of the same dish can we? (insert gasp of horror here)

Both of our breakfasts were quite hearty. I only picked at the crispy parts of the potatoes and left the rest, plus the bread (after having had a few bites) and a tiny bit of the eggs.  I wanted to save some room for breakfast dessert later (haha, but seriously).

The whole time we were there (8:30'ish), the place was packed and super noisy. Like very noisy, raise your voice to be heard noisy. But it was still quite fun to catch up with Astroboi again.

Throughout the restaurant were vibrant paintings by this local artist:

It was so busy in there and when we left, there was a line out the door.

Who else went to the Mission?
