when we did a mini weekend roadtrip to LA...

to see the sights...
while scoping out Grand Central Market (post is forthcoming), saw that the sadly now defunct Angel's Flight railway was just across the street...

Angels Fligh is a short funicular (a railway on an incline), risint to 298 feet.

The original location in Bunker Hill brought passenger between Hill and Olive Streets. In 1969 the railway was taken apart to be refurbished and relocated to the present location a half a block south.

As you can see, some parts below are fenced off. The area does have a lot of homeless people around.

The view as we enjoyed our coffee at G & B (post is forthcoming):

It was still nice and early in the morning and the air was fresh and crisp.

There is a steep staircase to the top...

The pics are out of order and I don't feel like re-ordering them but yeah, this is the view from the bottom.

And now at the top near the ticket booth.

View from the west side of the ticket booth.

The man in the reflection was also taking photos.

Framed original tickets:

From what I've read on their website, they are raising funds to have this railway up and running once again.

It would have been so cool to have ridden on this!
While we were still at the top, where the grassy knoll is also fenced off, this is the view of downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) somewhat near the bench used in the film, "500 Days of Summer" (a hipster love story that I didn't quite like as much as TC did).

One of those benches is Tom's bench from the movie.

Someone else's video from 2011 when the railway was still in use:
At :41 is the bench scene where he points out his favorite spots:
More bench scenes from "500 Days of Summer":
Blah blah blah.

Who else went to Angel's Flight?
Josh from California Though My Lens went back in 2012 when it was still working:

while Wandering Chopstick's visit was during the Michael Jackson trials

Earlier we went to the Grand Central Market to look around and have some coffee. We later went back so TC could have something to eat..

So sad it hasn't been reopened! It looks so cool - totally something I've love to ride on. There are so many great things to see in LA, I'd love to do more exploring up there in the future.
I hope they raise enough funds to reopen this. So much neat history here and it's right across from the Grand Central Market which I know you would like.
