Heartwork Coffee Bar

Last weekend, I was out and about on my own. TC had her volunteering gig while Bert had other errands.

This solo outing took me to the neighborhood of Mission Hills...

where I wanted to check out a new hipster coffee bar...

on Goldfinch and Washington called Heartwork.  Every time I type that, I always want to spell Heart Worm. Nice.

Heartwork is the new name; they were originally going to be called Ceremony. The coffee bar soft opened in early January and recently had their grand opening. There was a bit of line when I got in, but it seemed to move fast. There is seating both inside and outside and a big plus is that they have a bathroom. It's pretty minimalist inside and there were about 4 or 5 workers busy at work making drinks. The coffee is supplied by James Coffee in Little Italy (my post on my recent visit there is forthcoming) and Dark Horse Roasters in Normal Heights. They have no fancy drip coffee contraptions. Their menu is pretty simple. Coffee, hot or cold plus tea drinks. They also have pastries but am not sure of the bakery from which they hail. The pastries were also vegan which I don't particularly care for (unless it's a donut from Donut Panic in Grantville)

I kept it simple, just a 12 oz. cold brew with room for half and half and sugar because I'm so exciting like that. I did not partake of their pastries; I recognized the horrible vegan donut I tried from Dark Horse here. No bueno. Just coffee this morning.

Folks here were nice. Lots of foot traffic. Saw a few families in here with young children. My coffee was just right after I added all that shit to it. To be honest, I didn't put too much sugar this time because I liked the bitterness.

I parked a few blocks south where it wasn't as congested as near the coffee shop.  I noticed this painted utility box on the corner of Goldfinch and University.

It looks like it was the same artist who did this, as seen near Off the Record on University Ave in North Park:

It looks like the same style and color scheme to me, although I couldn't find the artist's signature.

I'll have to do a revisit with Bert because he is interested in trying their pour over blends.

I like that their menu was on wood and that there was a section labeled "Not Coffee". That amused me. More cold brew! I love coffee but I try not too drink too much of it. Seems like there are more hipster-ish places popping up over town.

"Not coffee" was especially amusing. I have to limit myself to one cold brew a week. usually a saturday. i can't handle it on weekdays when I work.
