Lunch once again was at my parents' house with everyone over...
including all of the grandchildren (seven!). Last year, the youngest grandchild was only a few weeks old. What a difference a year makes! She is now walking around and babbling! So cute!
My parents kept it low key this year and only had the basic. My sister brought her Pancit Palabok...

complete with fresh calamansi and crushed pork rinds as toppings.
On the table were mashed potatoes, stuffings, cranberry sauce (from a can, ugh), the palabok, gravy, turkey with rice and sausage stuffing, glazed ham, and the lonely salad that hardly anyone ate. Sorry Dad!

The turkey was really moist this year and the stuffing was so delicious.

The dessert table...

My dad made homemade hopia (filled with ube because all of the Asian stores were out of yellow mung beans), banan cake, white chocolate and pistachio cookies from Trader Joe's (brought by me), cheese and crackers, kepeng (sugared crackers from Valerio's), and sliced yams (orange and purple).

The other half of the table had a fruit platter (oranges, apples, grapes, and persimmons), my pecan tarts, rainbow jello, cinnamon pullapart bread from The European Cake Gallery (covered in plastic), and inexplicably, carrots and celery sticks, plus celery sticks filled with peanut butter. My dad had some different ideas this year...

Not shown were the apple pies (no pumpkin this year) and nephew #2's ice cream birthday cake from Carvel (he turns 15 this Saturday). Below, TC's specialty, rainbow cupcakes which were a major hit with all of her boy cousins.

She always does a great job with these rainbow cupcakes!
Below, my pecan tarts where I used Trader Joe's pie crust because I'm expedient like that. I also experimented with one of my camera filters, hence the strange coloring...

I am thankful for having a caring and generous family. Nothing is more important than spending time with my husband, daughter and my parents, siblings and their kids. Forget shopping those "early" sales or trying to get a "good deal". Life is so short and a million material items in the world cannot replace a loved one.

Happy Thanksgiving CC. The cupcake looks so awesome - you'll have to share the recipe so I can try it w/ my nephews.
What a spread! Happy Thanksgiving CC :)
Thanks Faye and Jinxi - i hope you ladies had a great Thanksgiving as well!
Faye, for the cupcake recipe, there's really nothing to it. my daughter got it off of youtube. you use boxed white cake mix and divide the batter into six separate bowls of each color. you have to layer the colors in order when you spoon them into the cupcake liner. it takes a while, but the results are pretty cool. i'm sure your nephews will like it! :)
Very nice meal on such a special day. You are lucky to have family close by. Good to stay away from the 'sales'; I don't think any of them are worth it.
hi cathy - thank you. i'm glad that my immediate family is all in SD.
as for sales, we didn't partake in the madness at all. haven't done so in years really. i agree, it's not worth it. it's disgusting how the media blatantly promotes materialism.
Looks like an awesome spread! Spending time with family is much more important than all of those crazy ass sales. Happy post-Thanksgiving, CC!
Thanks Mary! My parents didn't really go all out this year but the food was still excellent! i am so not into shopping during the holidays! bah humbug!
Mmm, everything looks great! I love how TC's rainbow cupcakes look.
Thanks Kirbie. She really likes making those cupcakes, especially for the boy cousins. :)
