More of La Moreliana

I swear I've been to Moreliana at least once a week for the past month or so...

Don't you just love this lazy shot taken through my front car window?

Yeah, there's a lot of those, ha ha. But back to the bakery where I went recently to get a few food gifts...

For as you know, food is always a great gift. It's fun to give and fun to recieve!

These are a few of the pastries I bought to give my hairstylist who is amazing and always so generous of her time with me. She recently came back from a trip to Mexico and brought me back some handmade earrings made from seeds. I wanted to reciprocate and thought a few baked goods from her home state of Michoacan would make her happy...

The big flat loaf thing was actually for us. I didn't really like it because it was too hard and dry. Bert ended up having it later that week. TC picked out the puff pastry banderilla ("stick") drizzled with cajeta for R, the hairstylist. The bread you see was called a birote filled with cream cheese and jalapenos (only $1.50).

Here were the rest of the pastries for our hairdresser - a butter cookie stick, a taquito de queso, a coyota de piloncillo (my favorite), and lastly, an oreja.

The one on top was a librito, a flaky pastry  which means "little book" (the flaky layers are said to resemble book pages)...Some of what we got her were doubles for us.

Here is more of that bread, which had a nice sheen to it and faint powdery crumb on top that I liked...

Inside were the cream cheese and jalapenos. This would taste so good with ham! The bread was milky and soft. I loved it and would probably eat it even without the cheese and jalapeno filling!

A week later, TC and I went again...

I wanted to pick up a few items for a planned luncheon with two of the educator GF's, TORC and KD.

TC picked out a trio of these artfully arranged cookies that were dusted liberally with powdered sugar...You can see the libritos on the rack below.

I was so happy they had these during our visit. The week before, they were out. Look at those prices, .40 cents and .60 cents!

All of this plus two slices of cake (coming up) ended up being $8.50. See the crescent roll looking thing? That was eaten in the car. It was so soft and fresh; the dusting of confectioner's sugar reminded me of the fried donuts my mom used to make when were kids.

Our bounty ensconced in the paper bag. The lady wrapped up the smaller cream cheese and pineapple filled pastries separately...

Before she rang me up, I saw slices pieces of two kinds of cake. This was a yellow cake topped with cajeta and nuts; each slice was .75 each.

The top view - top dish had the trio of pineapple filled empanadas and the powdered butter cookies. The bottom dish had a duo the coyotas de piloncillo as well as a trio of the taquitos de queso. I would later divide these into pieces so we could all sample them since KD and TORC and their respective husbands haven't had these before.

I really like these little cream cheese filled delights.

Here is another shot of that cake before I sliced it into fourths...The cajeta topping was very attractive to me. It didn't taste as "goaty" as I thought it would, so yay for that.

The cake was then sliced up to maximize sharing and sampling.

If I lived closer, I would be here every day! It's always a gamble coming in and seeing what they have or don't have. They have a few of their standard offerings like conchas, orejas, empanadas, the powdered cookies and such, but there are some items that they rotate on a daily basis. It's kind of fun when what I want is there but disappointing when it's not. It's that element of surprise and their excellent products that keep me coming back.  For the record, my hairdresser really loved the pastries and said they reminded her of "home" and that they were really authentic!

Previous visits to Moreliana:
Earlier this month, plus these other posts from October here and here as well as my very first visit.

I'm sure TC and I will be coming here multiple times before the year ends...

You are so lucky to live so close to this wonderful bakery. Fresh and good and not expensive, makes having a sweet every so often justifiable. I hope they are open this weekend: we go grocery shopping while everyone else is looking for 'Black Friday' deals.
