Father's Day 2017 - Tartine & Lil Piggy's

TC surprised Bert this year by making this...

We heard her rattling around downstairs but she told us not to come down...

It was so very sweet of her to make pancake (both plain and with chocolate chips) for her dad.

Much more heartwarming than this scene from "Return of the Jedi"...

Father and child bonding at its finest?

Since it was Father's Day, Bert got to choose where to go and since he wanted pulled pork, he selected Lil Piggy' in Coronado (where we went for Father' Day three years ago; that post linked at the end)...

Taking Palm to the Strand, we noted the changes at the 9th and Palm intersection where Rexall Drugs and an old movie theater and liquor store used to be...It's not open yet but you can already see the chains that are setting up there.

F esh Nuts sign - Star Dust Donuts. Closed on Sundays.

We could see the Hotel del looming in the distance...

We parked at the Ferry Landing lot since there was shade. It was a Sunday and street parking would have free as well but we chose the lot.  Just a few block down was Tartine a place Bert and I discovered  a few years ago when TC was out volunteering and we wanted to kill time. We just wanted coffee since we would be having lunch soon enough.

Our drinks - Bert's double macchiato (properly prepared) and tea for TC and I.

Loved my tropical green tea! TC's Vanilla bean was very nice as well. Both tea bags were like a fancy fine mesh, not paper.

Bert wanted something sweet to go with his coffee and was intrigued when our served mentioned that the coffee cake that morning was peach.

Warmed up, the cake wasn't as dense as it would have been if eaten cold. This was really delicious, especially the crust.

We did save room for an early lunch at Lil Piggy's, one of Bert' favorite bbq places.

Beer list:

So many choices!

We alway get these, the corn fritters with honey butter (with a tiny bit of cinnamon).

TC and I shared the big portion of the brisket with potato salad and mac and cheese (her choices). Bert was craving pulled pork so that was his choice along with baked beans.  Our brisket was really tender and on the leaner side...The portion was generous and we ended up with leftover. We did have to ask for extra bread (really, two is enough?).

Meeeeeaaatttt....

The downtown San Diegoskyline was beautiful as always...

Dessert at home...a choice of three different flavors of homemade no churn ice cream.

I copied the coffee cookies & cream flavor from when we went to Moosie's. So easy to do! I like my version better too, ha ha.

Who else has been to Lil Piggy's?
Both Mary and Lynn have been here (2013)
