here in this tiny (and I mean tiny) strip mall crammed with businesses galore...
Bert hadn't been to Tuktan Thai yet. My first (and previous) visit was nearly two years ago with TC.

The first thing I noticed was the random, uh....decor they had hanging from the ceiling. Toy babies in a basket. Christmas ornaments and the funniest of all, Sesame Street characters. These were just a few...

Wait, there's Ernie next to the drinks case...

which has a flyer unceremoniously posting phone numbers of people who did not pick up their to go orders. Wow...they don't mess around here to they. The drinks case is also covered with random stickers as well as the trash can. So, no classic Thai decor here. It looks like maybe, just maybe...a five year old ran amok and had his/her fun with random sticker placement...on anything.

But hey, I'm not hatin'! We didn't come here for the decor but for the food! The folks here are very nice and friendly. The owner was pretty animated and when trying to describe one the dishes (it was duck), she made the sound (and it wasn't quack quack). I thought it was funny.

Pad thai with tofu for guess who, Bert's spicy noodles with chicken and something new for me, the Kao-Soy noodles with shrimp.

Everything was as delicious as it looked and the food really "popped" on those robin's egg blue plates. We've had the first two dishes before but the cooked and fried noodles in a curry soup was a new one for all of us.

I really liked the combination of the fried versus soft noodles. The broth was actually pretty spicy and I couldn't fathom eating the whole bowl as an actual entree. It was quite sizeable and flavorful. I learned from a quick online search that this dish is similar to a Burmese dish that sometimes uses pickled mustard greens (none were present here; that might have been a nice addition). The broth was a yellow curry with flecks of chili pepper and the bright flavors of lime tempered by coconut milk. It was a very rich dish that I could only enjoy in a small dose.

I like the Thai writing!

Goodbye waving cats!

The kao-soy noodles leftovers lasted a few days. I'm glad I tried something new here. I'll have to try it at other places so I can make a proper comparison.
Previous visit to Tuktan Thai:
June 2014
I was so bummed that they no longer offer the corn fritters. This was the main reason I wanted to come back again. We'll have to do another visit to explore more of their menu...

Those toys hanging from the ceiling like that remind me of a place we went to Portland! Kooky. Looks like such random stuff. Hardcore about putting up the phone numbers of people who didn’t pick up there food. I wonder if they called them back and yelled at them, too!
OMG, the stuff hanging from the ceiling was so RANDOM. Seriously, Sesame Street toys? Poor Ernie and Bert.
When I noticed the list of phone numbers, I thought, oh man, no privacy here. They don't mess around, ha ha.
