Peasant Pies

We were digging all of the different places we saw on Irving Street, but it was this place that was specifically sought out...

We wanted something small and snacky and not a huge meal to tide us over until the wedding...

Meat pies? We're there. They had it all it seemed and judging from the menu board, there was quite a variety. We chose four savory pies ($3.55 each) - Spicy clam, chicken, beef, and egg and sausage with potatoes. Every one of them was equally delicious with a tender and flaky crust. The clam version tasted like spicy pizza sauce with the added bonus of clams. Bert and I both liked the breakfast sausage  pot pie. I always seem to gravitate towards those ingredients!

Savory pies:

Sweet pies:

plus various salads to go...

Our potpie quartet:

These were hot and bubbling with flavor...

The prices have gone up since that article was printed (linked at end of post) when the pies were $3.00. They've gone up more than half a dollar. That's inflation for ya.

Spicy clam goodness...

This place was busy in spurts, A big crowd would come in, then taper off, then another big crowd would come in. This place does brisk business.

My list of places to hit up. We hit up just Peasant Pies, Sheng Kee and the gelato place (post is forthcoming). I like to have options you know.

I'm so anal. I had separate pages of these for all of the neighborhoods we visited (Taraval, Noriega, and Irving) in SF. I like to be prepared and have backups in case our original choices were closed or we changed our minds.

Reviews from you know where and trip advisor plus this article which mentions a slew of Irving St. eateries and describes Peasant Pies as the "Baskin Robbins version of pot pies":
"Inner Sunset restaurants that rule", Examiner, October, 18, 2010.

These mini pies were quite tasty but we managed to save some room for dessert which was right around the corner...

There's Betty's Pie Hole Saloon but it's all the way up in Encinitas. Waaay too far for me.

This was a really nice place - lot of choices and decent pricing. Not dirt cheap but not overboard expensive either.
