Tomorrow- Filipino Sun Festival 2014

Tomorrow will be the inaugural Filipino Sun Festival...

which will be held at Mira Mesa Park on the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd. and New Salem Street...

TC will be doing her volunteer hours while we plan to check out the fun and festivities...

Cultural note - The eight rays of the sun, featured on the Philippine flag represent the eight provinces that revolted against Spain during the Philippine-Spanish Revolution in 1896 ( Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas).

The three stars represent the three main island groups of the Philippines - Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The sun is historically and culturally significant; it symbolizes unity and freedom and people's democracy.

We plan to check it out to enjoy the food, watch the performances and cultural exhibits. I'm pretty sure we're bound to run into people that we know from various organizations.

PASACAT will be performing so we will definitely support them! TC is looking forward to seeing AJ Rafael (a popular YouTube musician) perform along with her friends in the dance troupe and her cousin!

If you want to check out this new festival, learn some Philippine and Filipino American history, eat Filipino food and watch cultural performances, you know where to go!

I must say that your blog has taught me much about the culture (& food!). I looked at their website but can't find the food that will be sold? Are they coming from restaurants or being made by participants to sell to the public?

Loved the meaning of the rays on the sun - never knew that so it was beautiful to read.

Thanks Faye. I feel these way when I read your blog posts about Chinese food and culture. :)

Sorry, I'm not sure what food vendors will be there but I'm certain there will be at least one Filipino food vendor. There will probably be other kinds of food/snacks offered, plus carnival type food (fried stuff, haha).
