to check out the new Cohn restaurant in the new hotel, Pier South...
Here is the front of the hotel...

It's only three stories tall, but the ocean facing rooms have awesome views, therefore, the "180" in the restaurant's moniker. We parked on a side street (free) and saw this rather ostentatious limo...

They have happy hour every day but we were beyond the time frame for that. I made a mental note to return with Bert for HH on a weekend...

The foyer was grand, airy, and light with a beachy type color scheme.

We were only here for dessert and didn't realize the restaurant would be this busy.

All the booths and tables were occupied but seats at the bar and low seating area were available. We opted to sit at the low benches with a big square table...

Their dessert menu. We chose the Coconut Tres eches Cake and the Brown Butter and Hazelnut Tart...

One of the gals isn't into desserts, so she got a Bloody Mary instead, which she enjoyed.

It was quite savory, with the spear containing an olive, pepperoni slice, and a piece of cheese!
The rest of us had coffee (yes, I had a hot drink)...

Our desserts were both pretty and delicious:

The lime granita atop the caramelized pineapple was a bit of a neat touch. The cake was fluffy and not dense as I woud have thought it would be.

We also enjoyed the short bread crust filled with passionfruit curd. the banana slices were blowtorched and were so good. They reminded me of banana fritters. You can only see a few, but there were a lot of hazelnuts underneath those bananas!

I liked the flavors and textures of this dessert but they could have given us forks, rather than spoons. By the time we realized we needed forks, the desserts were nearly gone, so no need.
That evening, they didn't seat anyone out on the patio facing the ocean citing the wind and a broken door. We still went outside to take a few photos...

This would be a cool place to hang out and have a cold one...

You can see the IB Pier in the distance...

The waves looked pretty rough that evening...

It might be hard to see, but there is a thin "wall of water" at the entrance of the hotel.

Their regular dinner prices are pretty steep, hovering in the mid 20's. We noticed that the dining clientele were all older Caucasians. Perhaps out of town guests, or from the Coronado Cays? The younger crowd was at the bar. The clientele became more younger and more diverse when we left (I saw several Asian/Filipino families as well as Latinos). The dress code is relaxed - people were both dressed up as well as in beach attire. This is IB after all, right? Our servers were super nice and very efficient.
Who else went to Sea 180?
Darlene wrote about the grand opening at the beginning of this year on her Zagat SD post...

This place will need a "revisit" during Happy Hour but most likely later this summer when the weather is better...In all, a very fun day and evening spent with good friends!

That hazelnut tart with the bananas looks good! Maybe I would like that bananas like that... haha. That open air spot on the patio looks like it would be a great place for dinner, especially in the summer! IB's getting all classy, haha.
hi mary - yeah, IB has an upscale restaurant now, although i would def. not pay full price for their stuff! happy hour is the way to go. can't wait to try out their patio once summer begins!
