Another place that caught our eyes while driving up and down this street was this brightly colored and striped donut joint...
The sign was certainly eyecatching and clever...

We HAD to stop by...

Their tempting offerings:

Just look at that orange glazed...humminah!

We each chose a donut and got a mixed fruit smoothie for TC...

Fresh donuts galore!

Our selections:

I found out later while researching online that Doughnut Hut is known for this "butterfly" donut. It looks like four mini buns in one! This was the raspberry flavor.

I liked that the size wasn't overly large either. Every bit of this donut had swirls of raspberry in there and was so light and fluffy.
Another new favorite was their mini apple fritter...

Just look at all of those crispy glazed edges...those sugary crags of goodness (slaver, slobber, drool)...
For comparison's sake, we had a French cruller and it did not disappoint!

It was almost as good as Mary's but not quite! Airy and light as well as delicious.
We thought the whipped cream on top of the smoothie was a bit of overkill...

It was a refreshing cool drink on such a hot day!
Mmm, apples...

and ribbons of raspberry in the butterfly...

If you ever go here, there are a couple of tables on the side if you want to enjoy your donuts and people watch.

You can also gaze upon the painting of the toilet at the store next door that sells plumbing and heating supplies.
Don't forget...it's cash only here.

There is no website but here are the reviews from that four lettered site.
Dinner would be in Long Beach but before that, we thought we'd try checking out a famous (or should I say 'infamous') beach city first...

"Caught our eye"...you mean you just drove and stopped??! Welcome. Everybody has a local place-and it is so fun to just run across these Institutions of greatness. Your choices look wonderful.
We saw it earlier, then planned to stop by after our earlier stops. We simply could not pass it up! You would like that butterfly donuts, I'm sure.
That butterfly donut looks awesome! I like how it looks like honey buns all stacked together. The swirls inside are nice, too.
hi mary - yeah, we had to try it since it was something we'd never seen before, plus it was flavored! even better!
