Teen nephew's bday party food...

Before we start, let us enjoy this classic scene from Mel Brooks' "History of the World Part 1":

"Jesus!"
"What?"
"What!"
"Yes?"
"Jesus!"
"What?"

Ha ha,that never gets old!

Of course, every old school Filipino has one of these in their house, some form of the Last Supper, preferably on black velvet. In this case, this biblical masterpiece was found in my sis's former MIL's house for my oldest nephew's bday party.

"Will you be having separate checks?  Try the mulled wine! I hear it's terrific!"
Here's the quick and dirty rundown on the food:

My sister made two trays of Pancit Palabok - cornstarch noodles topped with shrimp sauce, fresh shrimp, green onions, crushed pork cracklings and crumbled boiled eggs. The lemon wedges are in a separate container. This is one of my sister's specialties.

She also made a new party favorite, her Seafood Dynamite which has mussels, shrimp, scallops and fake crab meat baked with a rich sauce containing Japanese mayo and Sriracha. Dude, this was so good.

Her MIL made a mixed fresh fruit tray...

Here's the first half of the table - From left to right: Fruit tray, Sariwang Lumpia (fresh lumpia) with garlic sauce, my mom's lumpia (made with ground chicken) + LaChoy sweet and sour sauce, behind that was my mom's broccoli and bacon salad (not a favorite of mine). In the front, next to the fresh lumpia is my mom's mac salad, then my sister's crab rangoons. They are not folded into a triangle. They were simply rolled and pinched shut. She said it was easier to store in the freezer and took up less space.

Okay, here's the other half: Above the rolled crab/creamcheese rangoons are my parent's wanna be fresh spring rolls. They used the same fresh lumpia filling which was fresh lettuce, julienned green beans and carrots, garbanzos, bean sprouts, and potatoes. There was also a tray of fried shrimp from a local Chinese place (complete with bright red sweet and sour sauce), behind that were my Lemon Creamcheese bars and in the bottom right, the Seafood Dynamite and Pancit Palabok.

Another family came in later with fried crispy noodles..

which were then topped with chicken, vegetables and a brown sauce which softened the noodles....

My first plate. I guess you could say I "cheated" this day.

We used to have one of these, a rice dispenser. Now that we pretty much cut out white rice from our diet, we've banished our rice dispenser to the garage. It used to have a "place of honor" in our kitchen dining area. I still think it was one of the best wedding presents we ever received (courtesy of Astroboi's mom)! [In the bottom right corner - my new Tokidoki Carino Crossbody bag in Favola print; Favola has the Toki characters reprising fairy tale figures]

Another person brought in this trio of cakes. This is Bibingka Royale, made with rice flour, baked with fresh banana leaves with cheese on top and fresh grated coconut as a garnish. This was such a treat since I hardly see this dessert at Filipino parties.

My nephew turned 14 and will soon be entering high school. He's such a sweetheart - always respectful to me, making his parents proud and doing well in school and in sports.

While at the party, Bert and I admired our auntie's backyard garden. That post will be forthcoming.

Here's posts from his previous bday parties:

hahaha! That movie was great. Favorite comedies: Young Frankenstein (Frankensteen!), Blazing Saddles (where all the white women at?), Caddyshack (Spaulding. He and I are regular pals. Are you my pal..."Mr. Scholarship Winner"?), Elf (He must be a South Pole elf.)
