St. Lawrence Market, Part 2

Oh yeah dudes, European Delight was awesome!

If you're ever in the mood for Ukrainian foods, this is the place to go...

Let's take a look at their offerings...

So many good things to choose from...

See those folks? That's Boris and Bella, the owners of European Delight.

Part of our lunch: One sausage roll and three cheese burekas, plus "Orangina". I sometimes embarass TC on purpose by calling it "Orangina" (pronouncing it as Oh-ran-jy-na, which rhymes with vagina). The knitted cap was a horse head hat that we bought for TC at one of the gift stands. She loves horses. It had a mane on the top and the two long side strings had puff balls on the end.

Potato latke with sour cream and a knish filled with mushroom and cheese. This may not be that exotic, but I love latkes! Anything potato that's fried, well, what's not to like? The knish on the other hand was a bit too doughy for my tastes. Kind of heavy too. Ugh.

What a total carbfest eh! The burekas were pretty good considering I'm not a fan of feta cheese. Nice and flaky with a creamy interior...

Placard seen in the South section of the market...

Goodbye European Delight!

Phil's Place, another fresh market stand. Their produce was beautiful and reasonably priced. Lots of exotic fruits too.

Apparently, these are very popular in Canada, Nanaimo bars. A few years ago, C from Life in Manitoulin sent me some bars of soap. One of them resembled and even smelled like one of these.
It looked so real, I wanted to eat it. Luckily I didn't.
(info below taken from wikipedia's entry on "Nanaimo bar"):

"The Nanaimo bar is a dessert of Canadian origin popular across North America. The Nanaimo bar is a bar cookie which requires no baking, and is named after the West-Coast city of Nanaimo, British Columbia. It consists of a wafer crumb-based layer, topped by a layer of light vanilla or custard flavoured butter icing, which is covered in chocolate made from melted chocolate squares. Many varieties are possible by using different types of crumb, flavours of icing (e.g. mint, peanut butter), and types of chocolate. Two popular variations on the traditional Nanaimo bar involve mint flavoured icing or mocha flavoured icing."

We bought one of the bars and had it later at the airport. Unfortunately, it was kind of smashed but it still tasted fantastic. We had the regular one (no mint filling). I love the concept of layered bars because there are different flavors and textures in each layer. This bar is considered "Canada's Favorite Confection" and I can see why.  We bought the bar this stand, Chudleigh's Fresh Baked Pies.

And these butter tarts from Future Bakery. Yeah, these were melt in your mouth delicious!

After our snacks and pastries, we wanted to walk off our calories. This was the view from one of the balconies on the second level.

And the view from the street below (see the flag?).

A cool scooter we saw while walking past the market...

A parking permit machine (I'm sure there's a more technical term for this but hey, that's what it was):

TC (enjoying her new hat) and Bert...

The rain had thankfully stopped for now...

Very nice and international here!

We headed away from the market to take a stroll around the neighborhood.
After our walk, we would head out to Cabbagetown...
