Tambayan Filipino BBQ and Grill

I was at a community function earlier today,

and had plans to go out with D, who picked me up from said function...

From here, we went to this nearby stripmall on Paradise Valley Road. It's near a few other Filipino places that I like, Snoice (which shares space with Kababayan Bakery; I miss it down South since they relocated) and Leocynn's Lumpia.

There was a relatively new (since early summer) Filipino grill eatery that Mary had visited. I've also had friends who recommended it and lastly, there was a cool artwork by a local Filipino American artists (and fellow educator) that I wanted to see.

It's hard to see but there are Christmas decals on the windows.

The menu is simple and yes, Silog is served all day! Hell yeah man!

For those who don't know, "silog" is a portmanteau  ("si" from Sinangag, which is fried rice and "log" from "itlog" which means egg) and is usually tacked onto shortened words that describe the combo of meat/rice/egg (ex: Spamsilog - Spam, Chicksilog - Chicken,  Tapsilog - Tapa, etc).

This was the art I was talking about earlier - the map of the Philippines, executed by @junglevillagechief (his Instagram handle); there is another copy of the map in Eastlake at Pansang's (in the Vons shopping center).

My parents are from Nueva Ecija located in the island group of Luzon, the top third of the islands (there are over 7,100 island in the Philippine archipelago. Bert's parents are from another region, Batangas which is also in Luzon.

Our combos with sinigang (sour soup with vegetables) with added lumpia/3 for $1.00.

D's Longsilog plate with egg over easy; we both opted for garlic fried rice (didn't look that fried to be honest and there wasn't much garlic).

Her sausage was pretty good actually. As for mine, I had corned beef with an egg over hard.  The corned beef was the chunky thick kind (which I really enjoyed); it was sauteed with red onion which gave it a different flavor than I'm used to. It was also "plain". I'm used to eating Filipino style corned beef with either peas, corn, and/or potatoes.

Their fried rice needs some color man. But hey, it still hit the spot. Didn't finish all the rice though and saved it for Bert.

The young cook was really nice, coming out to see how we were doing and if we liked the food.

Who else went to Tambayan:
To see some skewer action & more combos, please check out Mary's post from June 2018 (their soft opening menu prices have gone up and now all the silog plates are $7.99)

This place definitely warrants a future visit with Bert and TC so we can try the meat skewers, and heck, maybe even a side visit to nearby Leocynn's Lumpia, which we haven't been to in years!
