Dark Horse on 25th + Lofty Coffee Cafe & Bakery, Little Italy revisits

On the day before Christmas...

Bert and I had our Saturday coffee date early, as usual...

Even though I'm on "vacation", I don't really sleep in.  I like waking up early and making use of my time.  TC usually sleeps in on weekends so we didn't want to wake her.  It was foggy while en route to Dark Horse...

where I wanted to try a new holiday drink. We made it a two-fer - a Noggy by Nature cortado for me and their Minty Mocha cortado for him. The girls working there said they only had syrup for one more of the mint drinks. We heard another girl saying that that particular drink took some time to set up and that they never had anyone order both drinks at the same time.  In my opinion, they should have just it to themselves because it kind of sounded like they were complaining.  But hey, whatever right.

The horse was festive.

Our drinks - the peppermint candy rim, like the version at the La Mesa location (to be posted in a holiday drinks compilation) didn't quite go around all of the rim.  While I still liked the mint cortado, the new egg nog cortado was a close contender. Not as flamboyant with the crushed candies, but still festive with a subtle sprinkling of spice...

That bald spot on the rim is bothering me, ha ha.

This, now this was pretty good.

I like that they added something new to their holiday drink repertoire.

This was coffee stop #1. We broke for breakfast at a local taco shop (post for that place will be put up later) and then headed to downtown. The fog was still there but you could see it start to fade...

This was a pretty darn steep hill (I think it was B St off Broadway in Golden Hill)...

Sun breaking through...

We secured a parking spot a few blocks away and made our way to Lofty Coffee.

Can you guess Bert's drink? Yes...ha ha.

Their pastries are baked in house and this almond croissant was quite good.

My traditional macchiato with sparkling water on the side...

and of course, Bert's holiday obsession, the peppermint mocha.

He really enjoyed this version with almond milk. The latte art was a bit sloppy on one side, but the smooth and rich taste outweighed the appearance.  It was one of the better peppermint mochas we've tried so far this holiday season.

Previous visit to Lofty, Little Italy:
March 2017 (this post also links my first visit from Feb 2017)

We had fun people watching as well as checking out their furry companions. No pix taken of the doggies but it seemed that every other person had a canine companion. They were quite amusing to watch as we walked around Little Italy that morning...
