Tribute Pizza once again + Caffe Calabria

The scene of last night's dinner...

TC was at the season's last football game which meant...

Date night for us!

Their menu had been changed up. Gone was the al pastor pizza and the Star Wars pun inspired salad. I like that they do swap out seasonal items in their menu. Keeps you guessing and coming back for more.

We were seated at a two top next the area where you can see the oven! It was cool looking up every once in a while seeing pizzas being slid in and out of that thing. We also could see (and smell) the amazing vegetable topped focaccia that they serve with their charcuterie and cheese boards. We may have to try that next time.

Bert's Amber from San Diego Brewing Co. - light and easy to drink.

We tried Kirk and his wife's favorite, the sea salt focaccia with Nduja and burrata (an add on for $2 more; you could also add marinated garlic for a few dollars more as well; we stuck with just two things).  The bread was light and airy with a nice crust. Both of the spreads were very rich. The Nduja was salty and savory with a spicy kick while the burrata mellow and creamy. We had to stop ourselves from eating the whole loaf. We did save about half plus the two add ons to enjoy for later (I'm thinking TC will probably like it).

Spread this...

The star of the night - the Dirty Dancin' Pizza (Crushed tomatoes, mozzarella, shaved onion, jalapenos, fresh-as-in-not-from-a-can pineapples with a swirl of harissa ranch ($17/$2 more f you added on bacon lardons and pork sausage, which we did).

This was so delicious. The jalapenos were sliced so thinly. The crust was pretty good. Not burnt!  Nice chew. This was a great mix of flavors, although I could probably have done without the pineapple.

Not too far away was one of our favorite coffee spots in North Park, Caffe Calabria. And wouldn't you know it, we missed happy hour by mere minutes. Just like we missed Happy Hour at Tribute by about five or so minutes as well. Dammit.  I would have wanted that espresso martini.

We saw towards the back this time. The private room was occupied by a large dinner party where a little toddler girl kept running in and out of the room.  This was probably where a leash would have come in handy. Sorry to sound mean, but really, the child was running in and out of that room A LOT of times with the parent chasing her. She even ran behind the counter and also threw a mini tantrum. Just.  Great.

Our drinks for the evening...macchiato for him and affogato for me.

Espresso and gelato, a perfect combination.  Who needs sleep, right.

Bert swears he's tried their Bomba before (espresso with Guinness) but if he did, I never blogged about it. Which means, if it's not found on my blog, he didn't have it because I know I would have put it in. We've tried almost every drink on their menu here.

Caffe Calabria may not have the flashy coffee drinks as some of their other North Park  coffee comrades, but they do make the traditional drinks quite well AND use their own beans roasted in house. Points.

Even though it was nearly 8 pm, I was tired already!  None of this gallivanting or bar hopping for us, no thank you. Not our scene to be honest. Plus we wanted to rewatch a few episodes of "Stranger Things - Season 2"! (Yes, I did watch almost all of it straight through the day it was released)
